The controversial silos at White Bay, Sydney.

Strange signs encountered by me at White Bay, near Rozelle, in Sydney, on Wednesday 1st March, 2023.

Apparently we can: "Get almost anything on Uber Eats"

BUT absolutely: "No Giant Silos"

But my problem was just staying out of the way of random Mack trucks whilst taking photographs of silos.

What was a Mack truck doing there anyway?

A bizarre incident.

Forgotten, but extremely photogenic Mack Truck on a abandoned salvage yard in northern Illinois. The old International truck in the background, not nearly as interesting!

Happy truck Thursday all!

There are some additions to a favorite photo op of mine. A Mack tanker truck and a International M tractor round out the display on this northern Illinois centennial farm....

Have a great truck Thursday all!

Old Mack truck abandoned in a closed junk/repair yard near Walton,IL.There was many sliced up/parted out trucks here, but the Mack was definitely the most "pearly white" of the lot...

Have a great truck Thursday all!

This Mack Truck had a hard life. It's been bent and twisted but still looks as if it could take on the world. Captured and on display at 'Old Car City' in White, Georgia.

With some nice embellishing "accessories."

1960 Mack B-61 Truck

This 1960 Mack is one of 137,000 B-model Mack trucks that were made between 1953 and 1966. Modern and aerodynamic in appearance, the B-series was developed in the late 1940s as the successor to the L-series, which was made from 1940 to 1956. The B-series was then replaced by the R-series, which was made for 40 years until it was discontinued in 2002 and replaced by the D-series. Some B-series Macks had five-speed transmissions, which was only possible because Mack engines have a wide RPM operating range.

Mack would always build whatever you wanted; they were and still are a custom manufacturer. The engine, transmission, and rear axle were all made by Mack. They were one of a few manufacturers to make all of their own parts. If, however, you wanted another brand of engine or transmission, they would put it in for you. The B-series was made into a variety of configurations; in addition to heavy trucks, there were fire trucks and school buses. These trucks were extremely durable and serviceable, and well regarded by truck buyers and operators.

Mack Truck B Series Thermodyne Diesel

The Thermodyne diesel engines were the Mack engines through the 50's and into the 60's, following the early French Lenova diesels.

Thermodyne engines provided simple, dependable power for a new generation of post-war trucks in a rapidly growing country. The Mack truck reputation for toughness grew and grew with these steady, simple powerplants. Horsepower was not their long suit. (the range was from 170 to 250 horsepower depending on the series and the set-up) A relatively narrow power band necessitated transmissions with a lot of gear selections. (Quadraplex, Triplex and Duplex married box dual transmissions were the most common offered from Mack) Big rear end ratios (7:--/1, 5.--:1 etc.) were the norm. Remember that really good roads were just being built, interstates were brand new, and high cruising speeds were not necessary. Moving loads day after day was the mission, and a Mack could make you money with its' simplicity and dependability.

Hood ornament on a 1962 Mack B95 Fire Truck

The owner of the truck uses it for promoting his local business (insurance). I couldn't find a shot I liked, so I went for my default photograph - the hood ornament. Apparently no one has done that before because he said, "what the heck are you taking a picture of?"

Later we discussed insurance.

I also just realized that this is the first bulldog hood ornament I've photographed. Yay!

BTW, I photographed a different, but similar truck a few years ago in a parade. See first comment.

“Hey, Mac! Is that a genuine Ford trash truck sitting next to you?” I inquired.

“Yeah, I guess so, why do you want to know?”

“Well, because I am interested in purchasing one” I said.

“But what about me, I’m a Mack Truck? Im a much better brand and in better shape!” Replied the Mack in an agitated voice. “Just look at my blue paint and my long flat bed. It wouldn’t take much to fix me up again.” He was getting even more annoyed now and though it seemed impossible, I thought he was jealous. “I’m too young to be put out to pasture! Buy me!”

“I guess maybe I could use you instead. The trash truck was going to be a carnival spinning barrel ride, but maybe I can attach a ride to your flat bed.” I pondered.

“Are little kids with sticky hands going to be on the ride, eating popcorn and spilling soda and laughing and screaming,” Mac questioned.

“Yes, that’s right! Won’t it be a rewarding experience?” I smiled, happy to be able to fulfill his dreams.

“Heck no, I don’t want sticky, crying kids crawling all over me. Please, please, please, take the Ford! He actually likes kids!”

So I did!

125 years ago in 1900, the first vehicle to bear the Mack name rolled out of a workshop in Brooklyn, New York. It was a passenger bus that ultimately racked up one million miles of service. The first Mack truck followed in 1905, and the rest is history. The company, which came to be known as Mack Trucks, after founder Jack Mack and his brothers, was a leader in design and engineering from its earliest days.

Mack Trucks - The company's trademark is the Bulldog. Mack trucks earned this nickname in 1917, during World War I, when the British government purchased the Mack AC model to supply its front lines with troops, food and equipment. British soldiers dubbed the truck the "Bulldog Mack", because they said it had "the tenacity of a bulldog." Its pugnacious, blunt-nosed hood, coupled with its incredible durability, reminded the soldiers of the tenacious qualities of their country's mascot, the British Bulldog.

The logo was first used in 1921 for the AB chain drive models and made the official corporate logo in 1922. (Wikipedia)
