"The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill.
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep."
Jelaluddin Rumi~
Star clusters are like precious stones that were poured out of the pitchers of the gods.
From my rural sky, Messier 46 (NGC 2437) and Messier 47 (NGC 2422), can be seen with the naked eye, without the need for a telescope or binocular. In this modest image, they are the main clusters that can be seen in the center of the photograph. At the top, there is M 46. It is an open cluster of magnitude 6.09 in the constellation of Puppis. It is about 5000 light-years away and contains about 500 stars. If you enlarge this photo, you will see that towards an edge of M 46 there is a star more celestial than the rest, as if it were a defect of the image. Nothing further than this!! It is not a star or a flaw in the image. This is the planetary nebula NGC 2438. At one degree of M 46, continuing down in the image, you will see M 47, an open cluster of 4.38 magnitude that lies around 1600 light-years from Earth. A beautiful contrast of colors is produced inside, since it is made up of about 50 stars, including blue giants and some red ones. Also, to the right of M 47, you will see the cluster NGC 2423, of magnitude 6.70, and a few other clusters are in this image... Do you dare to search and identify them?
When you have occasion to be under a dark sky in a rural area, on a night where our beautiful Moon is not reigning the skies, look for the naked eye to M 46 and M 47. You will find them not far from Sirius. You will see two whitish spots, you will intuit their shapes, their weak configuration, you will perceive the concentration of stars, and you will be able to imagine that right there, between the curves of space-time, marvelous lights explode in a dance of blues and reds.

Another member of the M-82 series of fighting vehicles, the M-82T features slight structural revisions and an enhanced armament suite. The latter difference being the most significant as the M-82 series now has the same engagement versatility as Yugoslavia's premier IFV, the M-81A Ipabog. Equipped with a 100mm gun, a 30mm coaxial autocannon, a 7.62mm RWS, and an ATGM, the Hajduk is able to neutralize almost every threat except conventional main battle tanks. As an added bonus, the M-82T also features enough space to transport six dismounts comfortably (or eight less comfortably). This translates to even more dynamic operational capabilities as the Hajduk can skirt behind enemy lines and disrupt said enemy's functions in the rear. Fewer supplies and units making it to the front means less work for Yugoslav forces.
Because of this versatility, the M-82T saw extensive use in the Second Eastern European War. This variant of the Hajduk acted as a spearhead unit for Yugoslavia's motorized rifle divisions as they breached Bulgarian lines. Despite the latter country's association with more powerful NATO militaries, many of Bulgaria's units feature dated Soviet equipment with only marginal upgrading of important subsystems (e.g. fire control or telecommunications equipment). Hence, the M-82T was able to outclass and overwhelm its Bulgarian counterparts at every turn. That being said, the M-82T is currently in short supply as it was only introduced in 2006 and there have been numerous production failings along the way to due to economic pressures and administrative changes. Nevertheless, the Hajduk is likely to be a principle component of Yugoslavia's mechanized doctrine in the foreseeable future.
One of my pictures is being shown in the Blithe Gallery! I'm very proud! I don't do much in Second Life anymore, and have grown increasingly shy and hermit-like when I am in world, so when Empress Anatine asked me, I was surprised and humbled.
I didn't make it to the opening party, but I had to come see the exhibit as soon as I could. I'm even more humbled now - each one of the pictures is so amazing... my silly picture looks like it doesn't belong!
Thank you to Empress Anatine, and Harlow Heslop, and everyone else at Blithe. You have made me very happy!
You can go see the exhibit here: (make sure to wear the HUD and listen to the great music the artists picked for their pictures!)
