"Lychee is a monotypic taxon and the sole member in the genus Litchi in the soapberry family, Sapindaceae. It is a tropical tree native to the Guangdong, Fujian, and Yunnan provinces of Southeast and Southwest China, where cultivation is documented from the 11th century."
So, if you haven't tried this fruit yet, do so, you won't be disappointed it. :-))
Each year on December-January, markets have fresh lychees from Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. one of our French overseas Department and Region. These are probably the last arrival in Parisian area.

Lychee is native to Southeast Asia and has been a favourite fruit of the Cantonese since ancient times. The fruit is usually eaten fresh but can also be canned or dried.
