Nowโs the turn of Autumns birth
Start the fires
Gather by the hearths
For cool winds whisk through the trees
The season is summoning me . . .
โI believe in everything until itโs disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if itโs in your mind. Whoโs to say that dreams and nightmares arenโt as real as the here and now?โ

โIs not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love - that makes life and nature harmonise. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one's very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns."

Cinder Cone, Lassen Volcanic National Park.
When taking this photo I was reminded of a painting by Andrew Wyeth (Christinaโs World, 1948). In reality, this image accurately describes the accumulated fatigue from walking on loose volcanic sand for the entire day.
It was worth it, though!

100m visibility from my work window. We had a bit of a delay waiting for planes to land before we could take our turn to take off. For the technically minded, the RVRs were 200/175/225m. RVR "Runway Visual Range" is how far you can see down the runway including the bright runway lights. For example, you may only see 100m of tarmac but you can still see 200m of lights at the beginning, 175m halfway through takeoff and 225 at the end at liftoff. Fog deeper than this is quite uncommon. Needless to say, at liftoff speed of 150mph, 225m goes by quite quickly. The minimum allowed RVR for takeoff is 125m for me and just 75m required for landing (by computer autoland...) Needless to say, I don't have a pic of what the runway lights look like when we are lined up and ready to launch. This is just the lead-on taxyway.
