An abandoned homestead and vehicle lost to time, partially hidden by overgrowth.
The Ford Thunderbird (colloquially called the T-Bird) is a personal luxury car manufactured and marketed by Ford from model years 1955-2005 (with a 1997-2002 hiatus), across 11 generations. Introduced as a two-seat convertible, the Thunderbird was offered variously as a four-seat hardtop coupe, four-seat convertible, five-seat convertible and hardtop, four-door pillared hardtop sedan, six-passenger hardtop coupe, and five-passenger pillared coupe, with the final generation designed again as a two-seat convertible.
Ford targeted the two-seat Thunderbird as an upscale model, but the 1958 model year design introduced a rear seat and arguably marked the expansion of a market segment eventually known as personal luxury cars, positioned to emphasize comfort and convenience over handling and high-speed performance.

Built right after WWII, this luxury car continued the model last produced in 1941. To be honest it could be 1941 model as they produced 16000 cars that year. The 41 model was $1400, the 1946 model was $1,680 and only 1500 where sold. The car belongs to Cameron Heaps and Markus Raty who promote cigar brand 'Mombacho' from Nicaragua. The car is worth about $20,000 - $40,000, but of course could sell for more.

In this street scene, the monochromatic tones add a sense of starkness and contrast to the image, emphasising the juxtaposition between the person’s difficult circumstances and the opulence represented by the car. It makes me reflect on the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and raises questions about social responsibility and compassion in the face of such visible disparities.

Parked in front of Hotel Nacional you will always find a pick of the crop vintage cars. This one was older than most, I think from the 30's, but could have been from the roaring 1920's. It was driven by a young woman (in my eyes anyway), who was blond. She was chatting with all the male drivers across the street, as it was drizzling and business was slow. She told me the year, but that was many moons ago and I do not remember yesterday.

BMW was kind enough to offer me to test-drive the BMW i8 for a few hours. It is a very exciting car for sure: The looks are the stuff of a bedroom poster, including ground-hugging proportions and ‘butterfly’ doors, I would say it’s BMW’s most striking car ever. I did honestly notice an extreme amount of attention (personally, too much for me :-)). The performance is outstanding too, with a 4.4-second 0-62mph sprint. But here’s the thing: its official average fuel consumption rating is 134.5mpg, and CO2 is 49g/km. Those near-miraculous numbers come because the i8 is a petrol-electric hybrid, and the culmination of all BMW’s engineering knowhow.

Italdesign Giugiaro GEA concept
Sembrano corsie luminose quelle che scendono dall’imperioso frontale. Stupiscono gli effetti di luce e lo stile di questo concept GEA, l’ultima vettura sviluppata da Italdesign Giugiaro.
GEA è stata introdotta come uno studio, una ipotesi su una vettura lussuosa che in futuro potrebbe calcare le strade del pianeta. Una idea che ha forme ampie e robuste, che si distendono con eleganza per 5.37 metri e consentono una abitabilità notevole, grazie ai 3.33 metri di passo. L’altezza sarebbe di 1.46 metri, mentre la larghezza di 1.98 metri. Tra le sue caratteristiche spicca l’aggettivo “autonoma”, che richiama l’uso di sofisticate tecnologie.
L’esterno è filante e caratterizzato dal particolare disegno dei fari, sia quello molto fine che segue la linea del frontale, sia quello che si distende come fasci di luce, davanti e dietro, dando forma a dei curiosi archi. In questo caso è stata utilizzata la tecnologia laser e LED studiata da Audi. I sontuosi interni si distendono con eleganza e l’apertura contrapposta delle porte ne accentua l’effetto salotto. Non solo eleganza, tonalità neutre e materiali di pregio, ma anche contenuti tecnici studiati per la comodità degli occupanti come, ad esempio, la possibilità di ruotare il sedile anteriore di 180° o i due schermi da 19 pollici a LED. La strumentazione di guida è presente su alcuni display che forniscono assieme alle tradizionali indicazioni, informazioni sulla quantità di batteria, sullo stato dell’apparato propulsore e sulla navigazione. Ci sono poi anche altri due schermi che riportano ciò che è inquadrato dalle camere laterali. Inoltre, in collaborazione con LG, grazie a una speciale applicazione per smartphone si possono gestire da questo dispositivo l’apertura o la chiusura delle porte, oppure la regolazione del sedile.
Il peso complessivo dell’auto, nonostante le ampie misure, sarebbe poco superiore ai 2.000 kg. Un risultato ottenuto grazie all’impiego di fibra di carbonio e magnesio per lo sviluppo della vettura. A spingere la vettura sarebbero quattro motori elettrici da 190 cavalli (142 kW) ciascuno, per complessivi 764 cavalli (570 kW). I propulsori sarebbero alimentati da batterie da 375 litri ricaricabili a induzione e la GEA sarebbe in grado di raggiungere i 250 km/h.

….. The perfect car for the middle of London - Mmmm may be not! Deserves to be out on the open road, but if you’ve got it flaunt it as the saying goes. We know a few JJ’s but none claim it to be theirs - in fact our JJ said ’silly car’ - well he does play a double bass amongst other things!! One thing I must mention though is that this is a British car - we should be very proud of that. Alan:-)….
