Luxuriating in the last of the golden days of Autumn, before wind and rain knock the blazing leaves off their final tethers. This particular day was rich with that special, golden October light and intensely blue skies over-arching it all. A return to my pano-sabotage imagery, otherwise known as "TumbleWorld".

 

This past Spring & Summer and during this Autumn I was able to finally take "Tumbleworld" into the realm of Nature, pano-sabotaging trees and skies etc instead of architecture and mannequins, as I did for much of the last Winter. I feel very satisfied with the results and look forward to perhaps getting out into Winter landscapes this year as well.

Wading Bird Rookery, St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park, FL

Birches are quite fascinating trees. If You take a look at this silhouette, so filigree and fragile, it seems like the smallest breath of wind could let it falling apart.

But the birch tree is one of the most resilient foliage trees I know. It is luxuriating in Sibiria and Island and other regions, where life is everything but a bed of roses.

So You see, the outward appearance is not telling You anything about the real capabilities. If You are open enough, You will be surpriced again and again.

 

Birken sind schon ziemlich faszinierende Bäume. Wenn man sich diese Silhouette anschaut, so filigran und zerbrechlich, meint man, der kleinste Windhauch würde sie in sich zusammen fallen lassen.

Doch die Birke ist einer der widerstandsfähigsten Laubbäume die ich kenne. Sie gedeiht prächtig in Sibirien und Island und anderen Regionen, wo das Leben alles andere als ein Zuckerschlecken ist.

Das äußere Erscheinungsbild sagt also nichts, über die wahren Fähigkeiten aus. Wenn du offen genug bist, wirst du immer wieder überrascht sein.

A lone bather luxuriates in the lambent waters of Lake Josephine as our luminary slips off the edge of the word

She smiled as she reclined and awaited him. True, the leather of her dress squeaked softly as she moved against that of the sofa; something of a percursor to sounds that would follow his arrival, she hoped.

 

She couldn't help the blush that flushed her cheeks at that thought.

 

For now she would simply wait... and imagine....

It is a delightful pastime to sit in the pleasant sunshine of autumn,

and gazing from this little spot of free earth over such a landscape,

let the imagination luxuriate amid the thrilling associations of the scene!

The light and shadow on the new leaves was irresistable. I love the part where the trees go from mostly brown to spring greens in 3-4 days. It's so good to luxuriate in those greens after the browns and grays of winter.

The window faces northeast, away from winter sun. During the darkest time of the year, in November, the mini Phalaenopsis sends out its new flower stem. For months it reaches, buds, and waits. When the window becomes brighter in February, it begins to bloom. Slowly but reliably, it blooms and blooms and blooms. In late spring when a few moments of morning sunlight begin to fall directly on the little orchid, its newest flowers open toward the philandering sun. It does not need these moments of warmth and light, but visibly luxuriates in them each morning for a few weeks.

The mossy trees along the forest trail luxuriate in the morning mist.

This shot is for me. I love working in black and white and this subject seemed perfect for the task. This is the other side of the banged up old thresher we saw in the previous photo.

 

As I said, this will undoubtedly be restored in a way similar to my next photo in this series. But for the time being I will luxuriate in its marvellous weathering including (if you enlarge the shot) the handiwork of years of borers. Despite the fact it's seen better days, I still think it is beautiful.

Some folks are mechanically inclined. I used to joke that I was mechanically DEclined, but now, after immersing myself in digital manipulations, I think I'm just mechanically reclined, mutated maybe, possibly perverse, ... who knows? Definitely luxuriating in too much time on my hands, here at my Gallery of Sloth!

A much-needed redo of a photo taken in Yellowstone and ULed to Flickr six years ago. It badly needed cropping and more contrast.

It is that time of year when the multitude of crosses implying belief in a benevolent creator are joined by a mass of flags placed on porches, telephone poles, lawns, in shop displays, car lots, flower pots, garden plots, and other spots. Both symbolize ideals that appeal more to the emotions than to common sense. Patriotism turns to nationalism. Belief in a religion fosters a disdain for those of a differing religion. The symbols (form) supercede--- I started to use the word, "trump" here but gagged as it formed--- the substance.

And so long ago the great fathers pronounced, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." But their lofty words did not free slaves, or cease the predations upon the Native Americans. It had no lift for the female gender.

Can we form a more perfect union? Perhaps we are asking too much of ourselves.

So let us luxuriate our misperceived exceptionalism and in the delusions we so eagerly embrace. Let us picnic, drink, party, shoot off fireworks, and, in some cases, shoot each other.

Poem.

 

Sea-Pink or Thrift fringe the dark, igneous cliffs, stacks, skerries and headlands.

Crescent coves of pinkish sand emerge at every twist and turn.

Scattered visitors luxuriate in every nook and cranny

sunbathing, toe-dipping, swimming, paddle-boarding and kayaking on a sultry, balmy summer’s day.

Climbing the cliffs from South Milton Sands and Thurlestone Rock we hear the bristling but charming alarm call of the much loved skylark, the rumble of a potato-planting tractor re-tracing its deep, parallel furrows in the rusty-red Devonian soil.

The lifeboat station, the warm murmur of convivial camaraderie emanating from local hostelries, a queue outside the ice-cream parlour and a myriad of leisurely walkers ambling the South-West Coastal Path, whilst taking in the breathless views and salt-laden, gentle breeze.

This is Devon at its best.

A ragged, rugged, idyllic coastline.

None better and few equal.

What a joy to behold!

 

A summer evening finds this old pickup luxuriating in peacefully serene nature near the Gassman Coulee Trestle in Minot, North Dakota, USA.

Commentary.

 

When you remember an area for nearly sixty years.

When you’ve walked it, absorbed it, luxuriated in it,

camped in it, competed in orienteering competitions here, day and night, taught many children about its culture, habitats, natural history, people, history and geography and seen them come to love the natural world as a result, it becomes very, very special.

When you’ve studied it from “O” level to Degree level, come to know its beautiful villages, their residents and the way of life.

When it is the most wooded and one of the most splendid parts of South-East England.

When it has seeped into your soul.

When you feel its geology, pedology, flora, fauna, history, geography and culture rise through the leather of your walking boots, with every twist and turn you become part of it,

it has become part of you.

When the spirit of the trees, the gurgle of the streams

and the therapeutic effect of wide, expansive vistas

of glorious landscapes speak to you, a bond, a love has been forged that will never die.

Such is this area to me.

Its spirit is in my D.N.A.

I am it.

It is me.

transpire moisture, manifest in mists and low cloud.

Here, the scarp slope of the South Downs

pockets the land’s visible “breath,”

cradles it and clings on

to create a mysterious invisibility blanket.

Familiar spring-line settlements at the foot of the hills

are lost within the silver shroud.

The sun is too low, too weak, to “burn off”

this gossamer veil.

Today it did,

but little wonder that this precious land

luxuriates in the saturated air,

to produce its superb harvest of mellow fruitfulness.

 

His alpha presence fills her with admiration and contentment, while the gentle scent of equal wisdom and courage imbues this sandy beach with an aesthetic that is so captivating and wondrous.

Relaxing with her one and only sunshine, she feels the warmth of his presence liberating her mind, dissolving the knots of stress that once bound her. Taking a deep breath, she inhales the crisp, invigorating air that is amplified by his comforting presence.

 

Each inhalation fills her lungs with the refreshing essence of quality. This breath is amazingly pure and untainted, free from the scent of any weakness associated with betas.

 

She nestles even deeper into his embrace, closing her eyes and cherishing every moment with a profound sense of satisfaction and adoration. The fulfillment she discovers in the enchanting surroundings and the company of those she admires is immeasurable.

 

The significance of this experience resonates within her as she luxuriates in the delightful sensation of being in the presence of a lover who continuously inspires, impresses her, and amazes her mind with his charm, wisdom, strength, and unwavering confidence.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Mocking Bird alighted on pergola and for 8 minutes luxuriated in the sun and stiff breeze. I had the door open and watched through an unsightly storm window. He remained motionless for the longest time and then began scratching and preening itself to its heart content...

Only the gods know why this photo's sat on the shelf for ten years. Love that light behind Scottie, that relaxed pose, the weird lines off-kilter but still effective.

 

At this point in the shoot, I'm racing against the sunset, having a great time with Scottie and Sophie, I could've shot them for another five hours, but the light's going down...and I don't much dig that kind of pressure, if I haven't already made that clear somewhere in the last seventeen years of posting on this here site.

 

If I could've frozen the sun in the sky at this very moment, I would've. Would've luxuriated in that light until I ran out of memory cards/film/Polaroids.

 

But I couldn't! I have not yet figured out how to control the very sun!

 

When I do...well...first I'll cause some havoc, but after that, golden hour shots for DAYS.

It had been a stunning day she reflected as she pushed her bare legs down into the sleeping bag. It felt loose and fairly cool compared to the warmth of the evening outside. Slowly she stretched down the bag, tired limbs luxuriating as she got comfortable within the bedding.

Now the LandRover was parked on the water's edge of Loch Etive with another stunning outlook and backdrop, as the sun edged towards the horizon. Their Ventura Expedition tent was erected on the platform above the Landrover Defender roof, cosy and safe high above the ground. Miraculously it seemed to be midge free although she barely dared think it in case her thought tempted fate. It was so silent there.

 

She listened for a sound. The distant cry of a gull, over by the old jetty, then a slight scrape on the pebble beach below. Closer. She cocked an ear straining her senses to hear. Then there was another scraping sound, a pebble tripping over another.

 

Suddenly she felt the whole tent sway. Something was pushing the Landrover on its suspension. Then a faint vibration. She tensed. Was something coming up the aluminium ladder at the back?

 

Then she heard it. A low growl. Deep and throaty. Bear? It sounded big. A slight snorting sound, heavy breathing, and then the rumbling, throaty low growl again at the base of the ladder to her sleeping quarters. She sensed the platform tilt slightly as some weight came on the ladder. And she heard the growl again. Louder now. And much closer. It was coming up to her.

 

Finally she had had enough, and just wanted to sleep. Firmly she called out, "Stop messing about Michael, and get in bed!"

 

Ruined his fun that night that did.

Another Pearsonville file luxuriating unprocessed and unseen on my HD since 2010, it's a Dodge WM300 dump truck, from deep in the back lot. 2 minutes of full moon, with flashlight.

It may be below -30 Celsius outside but Lily doesn't care. As long as she can luxuriate on the rug as snug as a bug.

Well for my holiday this year,I have moved house.The last three weeks have been very busy.We have moved further out into the "burbs" to a lovely property very close to Hannah's school.Our old town house was just to small for the three of us,so we are luxuriating in the feeling of space,and enjoying the last of summer in our new garden.There is still loads to do,but I am looking forward to catching up with you all over the coming days.

Trouble is ... I really feel like I need a holiday now :-)

Iguana luxuriates in the fierce midday sun at the Mayan archeological site at Palenque.

Our youngest cat Henry luxuriates on a warm soft bed in the morning sun. He is a firm believer that life was meant to be easy . . . .especially for him!

Buttercups in a meadow near home. At this time of year the fields hereabouts are strewn with these lovely flowers and on a warm spring afternoon it is one of life's simple pleasures to lie down in the long grass and luxuriate in their sunny yellowness.

 

When we were kids the thing to do was to pick a buttercup and hold it under a friend's chin and if their skin reflected the colour of the flower that meant they liked butter.

The other day

the beamish boy and I

did something we'd been

talking about doing but had

never done - until now, as he

is on winter vacation for three

entire happy weeks (we only got

two when we were tots) -

and that is to walk all day,

from our home in

northern North Hollywood

all the way to downtown

Hollywood, which in

a car is about a ten

minutes, but considerably

longer when walking. Especially

when you stop a lot, as we did.

We left home

at about 10 on a sunny crisp

December morning - stopped

for breakfast at

4 & 20 on Laurel -

then onward -

along Ventura Boulevard

till it turns into Cahuenga

and winds into old Hollywood;

coffee and coca cola

at the Good Neighbor

at Cahuenga & Lankershim -

and then on into Hollywood -

got there by about 3:30. My feet

were soar - and the beamish boy

was skipping, delighted.

We walked around, took

in the sights, and had lunch

at Baja Fresh on

Hollywood Boulevard. We

loitered and luxuriated in the

fun Christmastidesunshine

vibe on Hollywood Boulevard

as the sunshine started to wane,

and called Leslie - my wife, his mom-

from the Hollywood Toy Store

and she came and picked us

up

in the dark

at about 5:30, now kind of cold,

on Cahuenga and Yucca-

blocks from where Joshie first

lived when he was born.

It's a wonderful life.

 

This was taken against

a brightly painted house

in Studio City on Ventura Boulevard.
