Testing out a New App called Diptic-

Kramer Design Studio- w/

Tower of Power

in the Soundtrack

Not my IMAGE.

Not my Work- either.

Simply- an interior I admire.

This highly complex beauty is based upon two constraints-

One being the shape or opening of the clients hand carved Limestone Fireplace Surround-

and the 2nd

being the love and affection for the work of Art Deco Metal maestro-

Edgar Brandt.

Edgar Brandt was considered by many to be the PREMIER metalsmith

of the Art Deco Era.

Currently, at auction- his original signed works go for $100's of thousands of dollars.

This design is based upon a decorative grill he produced in N.Y.C.- the only,

commission he ever received in The US- The Madison + Belmont Building

(also called Cheney Silk Building) is located @ 40 E. 34th > 34th & Madison in Manhattan.

Creating this amazing piece took many, many hours- not just of forging and forming the Steel,

but in pre-polishing all of the individual parts and then again rePolishing after

being TIG welded together- all prior to the final clear Powder Coat .

I trust that you'll enjoy

this piece as much as I do-

and hopefully,

the client's desires and expectations have

been met.

;D

"You really caught the soul of Art Deco in this piece. I can just imagine young women

in "flapper" outfits smoking cigarettes in long cigarette holders and drinking cocktails

in tall glasses."

Terrence Faircloth

Did you know

that have Tree experts

have theorized

that when a Box Elder Tree

is infested w/BoxElder Bugs-

one mark of that

is the red color to the wood?

Box elder bugs are not a serious problem every year.

They are most abundant during hot, dry summers when followed by warm springs.

They were very numerous in 1988, 1987, 1978, 1977, and 1975.

They were also abundant in 1958, 1949, and the hot dry years of 1936 and 1935.

Etiology of Red Stain in Boxelder

A ubiquitous red stain can be found in the sapwood of living boxelder (Acer negundo L.) throughout the range of the species. Because the stain is so frequently encountered, it is often considered to be a reliable characteristic for identifying boxelder wood

Instead, the stain appears to be produced by the tree as a non-specific host response.

Zdjęcie Apartamentu dwu-poziomowego w Hotelu GRAND Lubicz @grandlubicz 👌 Jest to niesamowite wnętrze z przepięknymi schodami kręconymi 👍 Które przykuły od razu moja uwagę 👌 Nieco odmienna perspektywa fotografowania wnętrz, którą można dostrzec na moich zdjęciach 👌 Lubie takie „smaczki” we wnętrzach które odwiedzam 👌❤️

These 7 antique windows were "found" in the basement of a building being renovated that once housed a Synagogue in the 1950's and -'60's in what is now- The Mayne Stage Theatre- on Morse near The El Tracks.

Interestingly enough- the person involved in that renovation had an interest in a small Reform Congregation on Chicago's Far North Side- Emanuel, located on Sheridan Road.

(Jennifer Natalya Pritzker, Decorated Colonel And Hyatt Hotel Heir, Announces Identity As A Woman)

After my friend Sharon rehabilitated

these very-old-windows (which are alleged to have originally been from a previous Congregations Synagogue located in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood) and

strengthened them, from years of neglect-

I was asked to develop a frame and mounting system,

whereby they could be placed within

a Custom Built Wooden Window Fenestration-

and held in place

to be in the same plane as the Window Wall-

and align vertically.

I came up with these "lollipops"- fabricated from

Rolled Rings of a special (unequal legs) sized Angle Iron-

and another ring of Cold-Rolled Square Bar-

Engineered & rolled to perfectly "mate"

with the "INNER" diameter of that angle-

to sandwich- or gently "trap" these gorgeous windows

and allow the sun to shine through them.

The metalwork had to be "precise"- and slightly "real"

in finish to match w/the color /patina

of the leading in the stained glass.

I created this gorgeous Fireplace Surround for a home on Chicago's North Side.

During the final stages of this project-

I injured my back from a fall in my Studio-

onto the edge of my Anvil- making the memories of this install-

as painful as my visits to see a Manual Therapist to rectify my spasmed back.

OY!

In 1999 I designed & built FOUR

different fireplace surrounds for

2 great guys new Custom home

they’d had built in Lincoln Park.

This one sat in the Master Bedroom.

Needing a source for the copper work

I sought out Steve Jensen at C.E.Jensen and Sons,

in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Over the years Steve and I became

great friends

and sadly- on the 2nd of February of 2012,

Steve Jensen died of a massive heart attack.

His memorial service was yesterday,

it was a large gathering

of many people

who all spoke so highly of Steve

......friends, fellow Vietnam Veterans,

fellow R.C. Submarine geeks, etc.....

and a few Artist/Designers like me.

All shared amazing

& sorted stories

of a man

I was glad to have known.

Steve Jensen - April 28,1947- 2012 RIP

I had created the original ones about 15+ years ago.

The new owner wanted to expand the number of stylists

able to work in her salon (note to Economists = Productivity Gains!)-

and add another Mirror Station - thankfully,

she contacted me to make the same design again.

I really like the contrast of the Gloss White PowderCOATED Steel & the natural look of the recPurposed Barn Wood.

I like the way the black patinaed Mild Steel looks- rich and "iron-ey"...

especially in conjunction with the finely finished Rift Sawn White Oak.

Ted & Belgium did an amazing job!

SWEET!!!!

Often, "Studio Furniture" is produced in either Wood,

or in Steel.

Rarely do Makers have the ability or skills to effectively combine both of these materials in one completely "integrated design".

I believe that I have, and want to promote that aspect of what I do.

Please vote on which of these two layouts you prefer.

I like the simplicity of the

materials selected.

Ribbed (Fluted) "Doctors Office" Glass.

Cowhide.

Stainless Steel-Mirror-

Polished-sub-frame-bar stock.

OVER 15 years ago, I think that

the Design of this piece has "held-up" pretty well!

Still- "Of-The-Moment"!

A Black Patinaed Steel hand wrought frame

supports a steel subtop - atop

of which sit these 7 individually upholstered "planks"-

Upholstery by "Shoppe De Lee".

All welds are ground smooth - removed of splatter- and all seams/joints are

100% perfectly crafted due to the "special (; P) eye" that the client possesses.

Lot's of Polishing.

Lot's of small parts- perfectly aligned.

Lot's of Bending.

Lots of Time.

Lots more time.

Lots more Polishing.

....and it turned out beautifully (if I don't say so- myself)

Rift Sawn White Oak (a multi-step,finishing technique) supported with a Mild Steel base I made-

treated with an acid wash to oxidize/patina the sandblasted steel, then hand rubbed,

cleaned and coated with a baked on clear matt finish sealer.

Simple.

In 1999 I created 4 unique, One-Of-A-Kind fireplace surrounds for 2 fellas new home in Lincoln Park.

Realizing I needed a source for the copper work I sought out Steve Jensen at C.E.Jensen and Sons,

a small neighborhood business located in Chicago's "Rough & Tough" Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Even though the work they did was mostly Copper Gutters, Cornices and other architectural exterior work,

Steve gladly accepted the challenge of my "artsy" job.

Over the years Steve and I became great friends, and sadly - on the 2nd of February of 2012,

Steve Jensen died of a massive heart attack.

His memorial service was yesterday, and it was a large gathering of many people who ALL spoke

so highly of Steve......friends, fellow Vietnam Veterans, fellow R.C. Submarine geeks, etc.....

all with amazing sorted stories of a man I was glad to have known.

Steve Jensen was:

A fmr. roadie for the group "Chicago".

A backup singer on Chicago II or Chicago II album.

A Vietnam Vet who was exposed to Agent Orange

An expert Marksman/ sniper.

A dog lover.

A talented Sheet Metal Worker.

An artisan in Copper and thin gauge Galvanized Steel.

A master craft Solderer.

An organized Union member who disliked Unions/Organized Labor, but was

forced to accept them when he inherited his shop from his Dad.

A "big guy"- often Gregarious, Funny, Rough & Tough/Big Talker on the outside-

yet, a sweet, kind, generous & considerate gentleman on the inside.

A German War History buff / borderline freak.??

A Radio Controlled Scale Model Submarine enthusiast.

The "only" Danish Jew I ever met!

And- a friend I'll miss.

Steve Jensen - 1947 - 2012 RIP

It's somewhat of a challenge for me,

the process of designing (and choosing) a

promotional postcard for my self / my work-

that shows a "look" at what I do- without "overwhelming the viewer w/ too much to absorb.

K.I.S.S.- is always- much easier said, than done! (Keep It Simple Stupid).

(and that's just deciding on / designing the FRONT side of the postcard-

now I need to write intelligent copy that causes the reader

to drop the postcard and CALL ME / EMAIL ME to find out more!)
