Rouen (France) - Convergence des luttes ce samedi 11 février 2023, où plus de 20.000 manifestants opposés au recul de l’âge de la retraite ont défilé dans les rues de la capitale normande. Ces jeunes sympathiques punks ont tenu à se joindre au mouvement de protestation. Non qu’ils soient particulièrement inquiets pour leur propre fin de carrière, puisque ce mouvement proche des milieux anarchistes n’a pas de caisse de retraite. Ils ne se font aucune illusion sur leur avenir et leur mot d’ordre reste « No future ». Ce n’est pas une raison pour ne pas être solidaire d’un mouvement protestataire d’ampleur.
• Je note que ces jeunes punks ont un sens inné de la mise en scène et savent prendre la pose.

Rouen (France) - Convergence of struggles this Saturday, February 11, 2023, where more than 20,000 demonstrators opposed to raising the retirement age marched through the streets of the Normandy capital. These friendly young punks made a point of joining the protest movement. Not that they are particularly worried about their own retirement since this movement close to anarchist circles has no pension fund. They have no illusions about their future and their motto remains "No future". This is not a reason not to be in solidarity with a major protest movement.
• I note that these young punks have an innate sense of staging and know how to strike a pose.

Le drapeau du peuple malien !
Le drapeau du Mali est constitué de trois bandes verticales de même largeur. La bande de gauche est de couleur verte, celle du milieu est jaune, et celle de droite est rouge. Les trois couleurs ont une signification importante pour le peuple malien.
Le vert représente la prospérité, la fertilité et l'espoir. Le jaune est le symbole de la richesse du pays, représentant le sable doré du désert et le soleil ardent qui brille sur le Mali. Le rouge symbolise le sang versé par les héros nationaux lors des luttes pour l'indépendance et la liberté.

The flag of Mali consists of three vertical stripes of equal width. The left stripe is green, the middle one is yellow, and the right one is red. All three colors have important meanings for the Malian people.
Green represents prosperity, fertility, and hope. Yellow is the symbol of the country's wealth, representing the golden sand of the desert and the hot sun that shines on Mali. Red symbolizes the blood shed by national heroes during the struggles for independence and freedom.

Exposition de Mehdi-Georges Lahlou au Delta (Namur, Wallonie).
Je suis sensible à la lutte de cet artiste contre les stéréotypes ethniques, religieux et genrés ainsi qu'à son hommage, qu'il rend par le biais de fusains très noirs (si noirs qu'il faut être tout près, face à eux pour en distinguer des détails), aux Marocains morts, victimes de l'utilisation du gaz moutarde, pendant la guerre du Rif.
Dans les vidéos de l'exposition, l'artiste met en image les performeur-euse-s queers Diwe Augustin-Clave, Dr Lady J et CHIMI Nature en leur prêtant la mémoire des palmiers.
Exhibition of Mehdi-Georges Lahlou at Le Delta (Namur, Wallonia).
I am sensitive to this artist’s struggle against ethnic, religious, and gender stereotypes, as well as to the tribute he pays to Moroccans who died as victims of the use of mustard gas during the Rif War. This tribute takes the form of very dark charcoal drawings, so dark that one must stand very close, directly facing them, in order to make out any details.
In the exhibition’s videos, the artist gives visual form to the queer performers Diwe Augustin-Clave, Dr Lady J, and CHIMI Nature, entrusting them with the memory of palm trees.

The male flowers are ovoid, 5-10 mm long, sulfur yellow and are located on unpeeled short shoots. The female flowers, which are usually erect on three-year-old, needle-covered short shoots, are about 10 to 20 mm in size, pink to dark red in color, turning green in autumn.

Bij de ingraving vanuit de richting Bad Bentheim voor het station van Oldenzaal met een groetende mcn.
Ik stond op deze plek van 14:00 - 17:10 en dit was de enige cargo vanuit de goede zonkant. Maar wel meteen een hele mooie en eindelijk heb ik deze loc eens in de zon van de goede kant. Paar minuten later was het weer bewolkt dus dat zat wel mee.
Vijf weken geleden was ik hier weer voor het eerst sinds 1973 en toen reden er wel veel meer cargo's.
De mooie dikke oude bomen horen bij een park van een landhuis.

Pour compléter la série faite de plans larges de navires qui passent l’écluse après une nuit passée à racler les fonds marins, place à un plan plus serré d’un marin-pêcheur.
Ces professionnels de la mer font un métier difficile, très physique. Ils sont engagés dans une lutte incessante contre les éléments, souvent au péril de leur vie.
Cependant, contrairement à une idée largement répandue, ils gagnent très bien leur vie ; du capitaine au mousse. L’organisation à bord est collective et tous les membres d’équipage touchent un pourcentage sur les ventes. L’image iconique du marin attiré par une insatiable soif de l’aventure n’est plus ce qu’elle était.

Following wide shots of ships returning to port after a night spent scraping the seabed, a closer shot of a fisherman was essential.
Fishermen certainly have a difficult and very physical job. They are engaged in an incessant struggle against the elements, often at the risk of their lives.
However, contrary to a very widely held idea, they earn a very good living; from captain to ship's boy. The organization on board is collective and all crew members receive a percentage of the catch. The iconic image of the sailor drawn by an insatiable thirst for adventure is no longer what it used to be.

Deze trein had bij aankomst in Nederland een vertraging van 1 uur en 57 minuten. Twintig minuten later passeerde de volgende IC uit Berlijn, die twee uur later uit de Duitse hoofdstad was vertrokken.

Ces trois ours, autrefois maîtres de cet environnement glacé, ne reconnaissent plus leur territoire. La diminution de la banquise a réduit leurs opportunités de chasse aux phoques, leur principale source de nourriture. Ces changements les poussent à adopter de nouvelles stratégies de survie, comme se reposer davantage pour conserver leur énergie. Cependant, même ces efforts ne suffisent pas à compenser la perte calorique quotidienne qu’ils subissent.
Face à ces défis, les ours semblent symboliser un appel silencieux mais puissant pour la protection de leur habitat. Leur lutte quotidienne attire l’attention sur les effets dévastateurs du changement climatique non seulement sur la biodiversité mais aussi sur l’humanité elle-même. Les scientifiques et les organisations environnementales utilisent l’image emblématique des ours polaires pour sensibiliser le public et inciter à des actions concrètes contre le réchauffement climatique.
Ainsi, ces trois ours polaires deviennent malgré eux des militants pour une cause plus grande. Leur lutte pour survivre dans un monde en changement rapide est un rappel poignant de l’urgence d’agir pour préserver notre planète et ses habitants vulnérables.

These three bears, once masters of this icy environment, no longer recognize their territory. The shrinking sea ice has reduced their opportunities to hunt seals, their main food source. These changes are forcing them to adopt new survival strategies, such as resting more to conserve energy. However, even these efforts are not enough to compensate for the daily caloric loss they suffer.
In the face of these challenges, the bears seem to symbolize a silent but powerful call for the protection of their habitat. Their daily struggle draws attention to the devastating effects of climate change not only on biodiversity but also on humanity itself. Scientists and environmental organizations use the iconic image of polar bears to raise awareness and encourage concrete action against global warming.
In this way, these three polar bears are reluctant activists for a greater cause. Their struggle to survive in a rapidly changing world is a poignant reminder of the urgent need to act to preserve our planet and its vulnerable inhabitants.

A Peugeot 403, parked in Roscoff, observes the Ocean, with the island of Batz on the horizon. Today, Mother Nature is calm, but the struggle is uneven. Anyway, the brave old car looks good.

Bij de ingraving na het station van Oldenzaal richting Bad Bentheim. Dit was één van de slechts twee cargo's die ik hier in drie zag. Deze kwam eigenlijk verkeerd voor de zon, maar om dat moment gelukkig net wat lichte sluierbewolking.
New-Delhi (Inde) - Quand j’ai rencontré ce marionnettiste qui animait la lutte contre les promoteurs pour s’opposer à la destruction de son quartier, j’étais surtout venu pour faire son interview. La photo était secondaire. Je devais juste faire quelques photos documentaires pour illustrer mon article. De toute façon, je n’ai passé qu’un journée avec lui. Trop court pour faire un travail photographique sérieux car il aurait fallu que je rencontre d’autres artistes et que je suive le marionnettiste en spectacle. Et comme je reprenais l’avion le lendemain… J’en ai quand même profité pour faire quelques portraits sachant qu’ils seraient inutiles pour mon reportage écrit, mais me permettraient de garder un souvenir de cette rencontre avec un artiste charismatique.
The cigarette break for the puppeteer
New Delhi (India) - When I met this puppeteer who led the fight against developers to oppose the destruction of his neighborhood, I mainly came to do his interview. The photo was secondary. I just had to take some documentary photos to illustrate my article. Anyway, I only spent one day with him, too short to do any serious photographic work. I still took the opportunity to take a few portraits, knowing that they would be useless for my written report, but which would allow me to keep a memory of this meeting with a charismatic artist.
Voor de woensdagse bediening naar Delden Elementis worden als tractie de 6400 met ATB-NG gebruikt (6411 - 6418), maar ook de 6454 bezit deze beïnvloeding. Deze loc's kunnen in het noorden en oosten van Nederland dienst doen. Op woensdag 14 november ben ik naar omgeving Oldenzaal gegaan. Er was helaas weinig te beleven. Rond 12:45 komt DBC 6454 met trein 45767 uit Delden Elementis naar Bad Bentheim langs de Stadsweg bij De Lutte. In 1994 was deze loc de eerste 6400 die in de rode kleurstelling werd gestoken. In 2017 was de loc de laatste loc in de DB-Cargo uitvoering en werd eind dat jaar in de DB-Verkehrsrot kleurstelling gestoken.
De loc was destijds nog niet schoongemaakt, maar inmiddels hebben alle NSI 1700 locs een schoonmaakbeurt gehad.
(For English see below) Het Dinkeldal is een van de weinige (semi)natuurlijke en sterk meanderende beeklopen in Nederland. Het grootste deel van het dal is nog bijzonder gaaf. Samen met de gaafheid en de zeldzaamheid zorgen de vele geomorfologische verschijnselen ervoor dat het een aardkundig zeer waardevol gebied is.
Tiny river De Dinkel and it’s streamvalley. The Dinkel Valley is one of the few (semi-)natural and highly meandering streams in the Netherlands. Most of the valley is still exceptionally intact. Combined with its pristine condition and rarity, the numerous geomorphological features make it a highly valuable geological area.
De trein had +12 en daardoor hier kruising met de 1752 en IC147 naar Berlin Hbf. Normaal kruising vlak voor Hengelo. Oldenzaal bij de ingraving Koppelboer vanuit de richting Bad Bentheim.
The "Lutterzand" nature reserve is located at the foot of the ice age moraine. The river "Dinkel" flows straight through this area. Over the centuries, this river has 'eaten' the sand.
The "Dinkel" is one of the few primeval rivers in the Netherlands.

Op vrijdag 16 juli was het prachtig weer en werd er besloten om weer eens traditiegetrouw de dag door te brengen bij de ingraving in De Lutte. Destijds werden alle Intercity’s van en naar Berlijn op de foto gezet - mits ze met cabine 1 voorop reden - gezien 2025 het laatste jaar zou zijn dat de iconische rijtuigen in werden gezet voor de Intercity Berlijn.
Het is stipt 16:00 wanneer NSI 193 263 met Intercity Berlijn 144 de enkele fotograaf in De Lutte passeert, komende uit Bad Bentheim richting Oldenzaal.
Richting Bad Bentheim met een keteltrein, bij het begin van de ingraving na het station van Oldenzaal. Hier net een fotowolk, maar dat kwam vanwege het tegenlicht nu goed uit.
