The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 18th of October is “fluffy”. I originally had an idea, and photographed it to post for the theme, but then I received a beautiful birthday present from my mother which was equally perfect for the theme, and even more beautiful (I think). This is a 1950s Lucite brooch made in New York. The 1930s inspired lady wears a grey felt pillbox hat with a black bow with a net veil. She wears pearls around her neck and a garnet coloured stone earring. However it is her mink stole that is the most eye catching of her accessories. Made of real mink, her stole has been fashioned with a head with tiny pearl bead buttons for eyes. It is so lovely, soft and fluffy. I hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

Patio Poker vintage poker chip set original bake light and Lucite, a bit rare now days,, found I North Carolina.
This button is quite large - about 1¾" wide - and it's made of lucite, which is a type of plastic. It dates from the 1960s. The seller suggested it might go well with a mohair hand knit. She might be right. :)
Behind the button are 2 Art Deco lidded pots from the 1930s, also made from an early plastic. On the left is a roll of hand torn cotton/linen mix ribbon and on the base is a piece of vintage kimono silk from the 1950s.

Here I go again. I think it's fair to say that this image is pink with a capital P. :)
This is a vintage Lucite brooch from the 1940s. The flowers are etched into the back of the brooch and then hand-painted from that side.

I photographed this sea shell on a recent visit to long time friends in Prescott, Arizona.
We first placed the shell on a piece of black lucite and then lit it with a Yongnuo flash in a 8.6 inch Lastolite softbox, in manual mode, placed on the left side of the shell and just out of camera range. Fill light came from a hand held mirror at camera right. The strobe and camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N
I find sea shells to be beautiful objects from nature, and have photographed over 180 of them over the years. Those picture can be seen in my creatively titled Shells album, if you like that sort of thing.

A pendant (foil in orange lucite) in front of Orange Calcite and an orange backdrop.
I have these fun glittery lucite knitting needles. They lent themselves to a composition of Pick-up Stix.
I've been in the knitting zone again. Maybe, just maybe, I'll get some gift projects done ahead of time.

This is another one of those 'bits and pieces' images which came together with no particular plan in mind. The main subject is a piece of Lucite (a type of plastic), which has been reverse carved and hand painted. It was originally a brooch and dates from the late 1940s/early 1950s. The lavender bag on the left is an upcycled piece created (not by me) from an old dress shirt. The rose petals are just rose petals. :)

I've tried to accent those divine hues with Aluminium Roses in Purple and Baby Blue; Swarovski Crystals in Rose AB2X and Mint Alabaster; Vintage Lucite Beads in Cranberry and Lavender; Vintage Swarovski Crystal Connectors in Chalk Pink; a pair of 24K Gold Plated Clear Crystal Charms; more bling in the form of Rhinestone Chains; and some really pretty Blue Leaf Charms.
Topping everything off are beautiful Green Tourmaline Nugget Briolettes. Scrumptious.

I tried lots of different angles as well as trying out some of the other colors in this set of knitting needles, but this photo seemed to showcase the bubbles the best.

another food foto...I set a small bowl of grapes by the hard boiled sandwitch breakfast...the got up and picked the vintage lucite bird napkin ring off the shelf and struck it in the middle of them...to add a smile and a memory of my childhood.
