Simon and I went to Ashton Court on Monday for a little wander and to take a few photos. Here is one we took in between taking other pics, bit of a challenge without a tripod. We got so engrossed in taking pictures that we ended up there until there was no light left. I guess that's what happens when two photographers are courtin' haha :)
Hopefully be out and about snapping more now that the weather is getting better, yay!

Hey guys! So I thought I'd upload another portrait of Ash! I just posted two new blog posts which feature her so you should go and check them out here. I am currently in New York and have since my last upload, met up with Sarah Ann Loreth and her lovely model, Anna in Boston. I'll post photographs from that day this week. Soon I'll also be attending a larger meet up in NY this weekend. Keep an eye out for BTS and all that fun stuff on all of my links below.

Eine Soziologie Studentin saß einem Rentner gegenüber, der einen gelben Luftballon in der einen und seinen Spazierstock in der anderen Hand hielt. Neben seiner Schirmmütze fiel der dicke Schal auf, den er zweimal um seinen Hals gewickelt hatte.
Der schnauzbärtige Mann südländischen Typs erinnerte mich ein wenig an Alexis Sorbas, den griechischen Helden eines berühmten Romans, doch er hatte einen kaum wahrnehmbaren Akzent.
Die beiden waren über eine politische Frage ins Gespräch gekommen, doch sehr schnell auf eine persönliche Ebene geraten, denn die Zugfahrt sei zu kurz, um die Zeit mit oberflächlichem Gespräch zu verbringen, hatte Alexis gesagt. Aufgrund meiner Projektionen nannte ich ihn so, denn ich verspürte einen Drang, ihm einen Namen zu geben.
Alexis war Vater und Opa und ein schwieriger Gesprächspartner. Oberflächlich war er sehr höflich, doch machte er durch geschickte Umschreibungen klar, was er von bestimmten Dingen hielt. So sprach er beispielsweise davon, wie fraglich es sei, sich für gewisse Sachen einzusetzen, für die sich die Studentin interessierte.
„Das erzeugt Konflikte“, antwortete er auf die Frage, warum sie das nicht tun solle.
„Aber wir leben in einer Welt, die kontrovers ist.“
„Und in der der Stärkere siegt“, sagte er. „Doch der Stärkere ist selten der Weisere. Es geht hier aber nicht um die Politik, die Verwaltung oder die Wirtschaft. Es geht darum, was mit Ihrer Psyche geschieht, wenn Sie sich auf diese Ebene einlassen. Entweder Sie werden Gewinner oder Sie werden Verlierer und Opfer. Beides fordert seinen Preis, denn der Preis ist die Verhaftung im kleinen Geist.“
Die Studentin wollte wissen, ob sie das als Kleingeistigkeit oder Engstirnigkeit interpretieren solle und er gab zur Antwort „Ja! Aber es geht noch viel tiefer. Der kleine Geist ist Mensch, der große Geist Gott.“
Ob er gläubiger Christ sei, wollte die Studentin wissen, was er bejahte, doch er trenne die Kirche und ihre Interpretation der Heiligen Schrift von den Kernaussagen der Bibel. Er lese sie selbst und mache sich seine eigenen Gedanken. Sein Weg zu Gott sei ein leichter und kein beschwerter.
„Wie kann ich das verstehen?“
Der Weg zu Gott sei beschwert von falschen Vorstellungen. Alle Kirchen hätten sich in Interpretationen verfangen, hätten auf ihre Weise Dogmen aufgestellt und ein fest umrissenes Gottesbild geschaffen. Schon als Kind habe er sich die Frage gestellt, woher die Menschen wissen könnten, welche Eigenschaften Gott habe.
„Ich kann nur jedem raten, Gott selbst zu suchen. Die Himmelsleiter trägt jeder in sich.“
Und schon kreiste das Gespräch um diesen Begriff. Die Studentin gestand ein, dass sie zwar eine Abbildung derselben auf einem mittelalterlichen Gemälde schon einmal gesehen habe, doch wisse sie nichts Essentielles.
Die Himmelsleiter führe zurück ins Paradies und damit ins freie Bewusstsein. Das freie Bewusstsein sei nicht an falsche Vorstellungen und niedere Begierden gebunden. Triebhafte Energien, das seien die Dämonen, die den zu Gott aufstrebenden Geist in ihre niederen Gefilde ziehen. Wettkampf, Gegnerschaft, Protest und Rebellion, ob in der Politik oder in der eigenen Familie, das seien die Dämonen des Alltags, die Stress erzeugten und damit den Falls auf niedere Stufen der Erkenntnis.
„Aber es ist nicht notwendig, meine Ansichten zu verstehen.“ Damit beendete er seine Sichtweise und ich begriff nun besser, warum er aus seiner Sicht dem Engagement der jungen Frau kritisch gegenüber stand.
Ich musste lächeln, denn mir wurde auch bewusst, dass er in seinem Alter noch ein Rebell war und sich gegen jene herrschenden Kräfte des Universums stellte, die Konflikte und Schmerz brachten. Dennoch erschien ein Bild vor meinem inneren Auge, dass Alexis mit seinem Luftballon auf dem Weg in den Himmel zeigte. Den Ballon übrigens sollte seine Enkelin erhalten. Er war auf dem Weg zu ihrem Geburtstag.

These images all started as pictures of some actual object, scene or whatever, but have been played with in Photo Shop in various ways. In some you might recognize the original subject matter, in many they bear little resemblance to what they started as. I love hearing what different people see in these almost as much as I love making them, so fire away--tell me what you see or feel about them!
This image is now included, with several others of mine, in an article about Lucid Dreaming--in Polish! The author was dowsing the web for images that might illustrate his article, and came accross this image. He asked permission to use it and several others in his article. I've always been fascinated with lucid dreams, so I thought this was quite wonderful.
I'm including a link to the article here, even though the article is in Polish, so unless you speak Polish you won't be able to read it! But I just thought that this was so cool. Until last June, when I discovered Flickr, all of my images sat in files on my computer, seen by myself and a total of maybe 10 other people, family and friends. Then I found Flickr, and what a revellation and validation that has been! Now here are several of my images included in an article written in Polish by someone halfway around the world, whom I've never met in person. I just think that has to be some sort of magical lucid dream in it's own right! This image sharing on Flickr reaches across continents and cultures, and the images speak a universal language. Good magic indeed!
There is some chance this article will eventually be translated into English, probably some months down the line. I tried pasting some paragraphs into a site I found on line for Polish-English translation. What a riot! Better than nothing, and good for a laugh..... I would love to actually read it in properly translated English so I hope that does actually happen at some point.

We took a trip down to Jervis Bay, which is normally a hot tourist spot. But it was a cool overcast day that offered the serene stillness and nice soft lighting of this shot. The water was so clear,clean and crisp that with the roar of the ocean waves nearby they droned out all the worries of the outside world. Made it hard to go back to civilisation.

What is lucid dreaming all about?
A lucid dream, in simplest terms, is a dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. The term was coined by the Dutch psychiatrist and writer Frederik van Eeden (1860–1932).
A lucid dream can begin in one of two ways. A dream-initiated lucid dream (DILD) starts as a normal dream, and the dreamer eventually concludes it is a dream, while a wake-initiated lucid dream (WILD) occurs when the dreamer goes from a normal waking state directly into a dream state, with no apparent lapse in consciousness.
Scientists such as Stephen LaBerge and Allan Hobson, with his neurophysiological approach to dream research, have helped to push the understanding of lucid dreaming into a less speculative realm.

During most dreams, sleepers are not aware that they are dreaming. The reason for this has not been determined, and does not appear to have an obvious answer. There have been attempts by various fields of psychology to provide an explanation. For example, some proponents of depth psychology suggest that mental processes inhibit the critical evaluation of reality within dreams.
Certain physiology studies suggest that "seeing is believing" to the brain during any mental state. If the brain perceives something with great clarity or intensity, it will believe that it is real. Even waking consciousness is liable to accept discontinuous or illogical experience as real if presented as such to the brain. Dream consciousness is similar to that of a hallucinating awake subject. Dream or hallucinatory images triggered by the brain stem are considered to be real, even if fantastic.
The impulse to accept the evident is so strong the dreamer will often invent a memory or story to cover up an incongruous or unrealistic event in the dream. "That man has two heads!" is usually not followed with "I must be dreaming!" but with "Yes, I read in the paper about these famous Siamese twins." Or other times there will be an explanation that, in the dream, makes sense and seems very logical, but when the dreamer awakes, he/she will realize that it is rather far-fetched or even complete gibberish.
