The Killiney Obelisk is one of the most prominent and best loved structures in Co Dublin. Built in 1742 on the crown of Killiney Hill by John Mapas, it was completely restored in 2008 by Howley Hayes. The Obelisk provides a dominant landmark from land and sea. It also marks one of the most stunning panoramic views in Ireland, with Killiney Bay and the Wicklow Mountains to the South, Dalkey Hill and Island to the North, the Irish Sea to the East and Dublin to the West. The Obelisk was erected to commemorate the 'Forgotten Famine' of 1740/41.

I love houses just like this,

with old wood so weathered it holds no evidence of paint.

I love the texture of wood that is slowly pulling away from that to which it was attached.

I love structures that housed the life of early Great Plains farm families.

I love to imagine the views each window and door framed.

I love climbing vines.

The underside of the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge by Santiago Calatrava in Dallas, TX. This is a thing of beauty to me because I studied architecture and love structures. I have plans to do a photoshoot under here soon. Just have to source the right person and setup.

Like I said earlier, while I love structured formal gardens, messy little gardens are so pretty because they are natural. I liked the contrast in colors with the little statue in this one.

I love structures like this, with their delicate, yet industrial bones, and no egotism in their design.

So, the awesome and funny catklein tagged me so i have to find 16 things to tell yall that you may not already know about me. And yeah, I stole her answers outright yesterday while I attempted to figure out what you may not know about me. I don't hide much, so it is hard!

1.Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I think it stems from my childhood, when our whole family would get together. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandfolk, everyone. Christmas was just our small family; parents and kids. So I get a cozy feeling at Thanksgiving, but am kinda meh at Christmas.

2.I have a phenomenal memory for stupid shit. I had a photographic memory until I lost it my freshman year at college. Turns out binge drinking isn't healthy. Who knew?

3.I am that guy you know who can take nearly any song and turn it into a dirty ditty.

4. I am a licensed engineer, but until this past month had never affixed my engineering seal to anything. In reality, I use computer models to do planning. Airport planning, mostly.

5.If you rode with me in the car during rush hour, you'd fear I was going into road rage. But in reality, I verbalize my anger at the dumbasses in the other cars and let it go. I don't hold onto anger.

6.Related to #5, if you rode with me during times of flowing traffic, you'd fear for your life. I am a great driver, but very fast. I have the gift of being wily. I've only had one speeding ticket in my life, and got my first warning a month ago (on Roxie). I play a game where I try to screw other drivers, and I frequently win.

7.I have been known to be totally random, but I love structure.

8.I have a huge inertia problem. The idea of going to do something is never pleasant, even when I know I love doing that. Going to a movie? Ugh. Enjoying the movie? Definitely!

9.I believe being a friend means being a friend in deed. My friends can count on me, even if they don't know that I am helping them. I like to be anonymous in my deeds.

10.I don't have any tattoos, but I know what I want it to mean. I just can't picture it yet. When I do, I'll get one.

11.I realize now, listening to my name being bandied about here in cubeworld, that I am popular at the office. They think I am fun-loving. Go figure.

12.All my life, I have stumbled in conversation because I am thinking two or three sentences in front of my mouth.

13.I love puns. I also like to "mishear" people so as to laugh.

14.I like red wine, and pretty much hate white.

15.All sorts of music appeals, but I have a softness for 80s pop.

16.I really wish I could go back and change some of the major choices I made in life, but I love where I am now doing what I am doing.

(Also, I really do like lip gloss when smeared from someone else's lips.)

Over My Head
