"When Noah did the things according to what God commanded him, he did not know what God’s will was or know what God would accomplish. God only gave him a charge, commanding him what he should do, without much explanation, and he just did according to it. He did not guess God’s intention secretly, and he did not have resistance against or have a double heart toward God, but he just did according to what God commanded him with a pure and simple heart, and whatever God told him to do, he did it. Obeying and listening to God’s word was the conviction behind his doing things. He was just so straightforward and so simple toward God’s commission." from A Continuation of The Word Appears in the Flesh

The many years in raising my children to love and care for others in Jesus is so richly rewarded in seeing them live the life that He promises. "A new command I give you: Love one another."
John 13:34
Quite possibly my most favourite verse in the entire Bible. It's simple, yet the most powerful and timeless statement Jesus ever made, in my humble opinion. Words I try to live by.

One of the first "Christian" t-shirts I ever had was based on this verse. The t-shirt said "you must believe" and referenced this verse in small text below the above words.
I took this photograph when working on my response to last weeks Photogamer mini-challenge of recommended reads. Believing in Jesus and loving people is important. It is commanded. Sometimes I really stink at loving God and loving others. Sometimes I struggle to believe, for lack of a better way of saying it my faith struggles. But I do believe and I do love and I am thankful for a God who is gracious to me even when I struggle.
"The God-created mankind, a mankind who had originally been very good in God’s eyes and very close to God, was cut off by a flood after they disobeyed God. Such a mankind disappeared in a twinkling; was God grieved over that? Of course, He was grieved! What was the expression of His grief? What is the account of it in the Bible? It is as recorded in this verse: And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. In this simple word God’s mind was revealed: He was deeply grieved over this destruction of the world; in human terms, He was very sad. We may picture it: After the world was destroyed by the flood, what did the earth originally full of life look like then? What did the earth originally full of human beings look like then? It was desolate, no living things existed, and water was everywhere, on which things were floating about messily. Was such a scene God’s original intention in creating the world? Certainly not! God’s original intention was to see that the whole earth would be full of life and see that the mankind created by Him would worship Him, and at least it was not that only one man, Noah, would worship Him, and only one man, Noah, could be called by Him to accomplish His commission. At the moment when mankind disappeared, what God saw was not what He had originally intended to see but just the opposite. How could God’s heart not be grieved?" from A Continuation of The Word Appears in the Flesh

As I walked into this yard, one of the young men explained he had not been outside or seen the sun in 5 months because there is only one yard and several thousand men. He had years to go.
Walking through that building there, and several behind it, there was no wiring or electricity so the place was dark. Rains had left the inside soaked and puddles on the ground. The bottom floor had about six inches of trash. No furnishings or a/c or offices or people coming and going. Just a cement and iron warehouse full of men locked in 6 stories of sadness and regret. The clanging of the iron keys echoed through the whole building as the guard escorted me to each floor and each cell. I've been to a lot of places in a lot cities and never seen such a dungeon. If you ever think your living situation is bad, and surely it may be, but just imagine in another life, who knows, you could have ended up spending years in a place like this.
It was our privilege to spend the day with these men, teaching, sharing, laughing, playing music and sharing the perspective of eternal life and the love and unconditional forgiveness of the Father. We distributed thousands of posters for their walls with thoughts of hope and a new perspective, health kits, gospel materials, booklets, bibles, footballs, soccer balls and some clothes. The gratetitude and openness was remarkable. How they keep a smile and an upbeat attitude in such a place is mind-blowing. Some very strong and beautiful men, eager for a second chance. Many have contacted us upon their release and we continue to be apart of their journey. Thank you, Jesus. May He have mercy on all those who remain there.
