Spent a couple of nights in Longreach, thought I was going to die of a terminal nosebleed there on one of the nights, musthave lost two litres out the snorkel, it just would not stop. I have a picture of the pile of bloodied tissues if anyone is interested. Some light trails around the rectangularabout, because it is not really round on the way out of Longreach. The water tower was lit up with colourful lights on top, not sure I got that bit right.

There are a number of reasons to visit outback Longreach in Queensland.

The property I stayed on has many historical connections and many artifacts and remnants of the past are scattered around the 76,000 acres.

At one time there was a Cobb & Co staging area, there is evidence of Chinese people, blacksmith dumps and many many more interesting things...quite fascinating to me.

I saw so many remnants of the past, reminders of a time gone by, chain links like I've never seen before, old scales, iron nails, old horse shoes, broken bottles, crockery and cutlery. Often after heavy rains, more stuff is revealed as the rain washes away the dirt etc.

this old pot was just one of many things I saw, it was all on its own, out in the middle of no where.

The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame.

It was one of Australia’s Bi-Centenary projects being opened by Queen Elizabeth on 29 April 1988. Work began on the concept in 1975, with Longreach being selected as the proposed site in 1978. Building work commenced in 1985.

A full day is recommended to explore all the exhibits. The Centre has a range of facilities including a café and licensed restaurant, a gift and bookshop, and a R.M Williams clothing store. The exhibits are grouped in five themed galleries covering the history and development of the outback: Discovery (explorers, Aborigines, immigration etc),

Pioneers (clearing the scrub, generating power, transport etc),

Outback Properties, (drought, fires, isolation etc)

Life in the Outback, (leisure activities, poetry, crafts etc)

Stockmen (drovers, stock workers, men and women working properties etc).

Multimedia shows are presented on a regular basis, and R.M. Williams presents a stockman’s show twice a day at 11 am and 2 pm with 5 dogs, a horse, a mule and some sheep.

This picture of the Roxy Threatre and Cafe, and a complex of small shops on Swan Street, was taken in the 1970s.

Everyone used to go to the pictures in Longreach because it was the only form of entertainment before television.

There were four showings a week, the most popular being Friday and Saturday night, and Saturday afternoon for the kids.

Certain families had long term reserved seats in the theatre.

There was no airconditioning, only fans and wide open doors and louvres.

Everyone sat on canvas chairs and there were two sections up the back that had 'red seats' - much the style of the seats in modern days theatres today.

In its early days it was also the skating rink, with the entrace being in Magpie lane.

Today, it is the Health and Fitness Centre, the Drawn In Cafe and Nature's Tonic.
