You never know what you're going to see on a drive even when you've travelled that road many times before. This time we found a herd of long-horned cattle.
This reminded me so much of my dear old Mum's nightly instructions 60+ years ago when winter washing in our freezing cold bathroom heated only by a paraffin heater. It was also followed with.....'Oh, and don't leave a tide mark!' ( Anyone out there old enough to remember that one? ...i.e. take your shirt and vest off to wash !!)
I was intrigued this morning to see Magpies going over these long horned Cattle. Long distance & had to use Izoom to give equivalent focal length of approx 1400mm. At the distance thought they were finding something on the horns but now think they are just using the horns as a perch to look for insects disturbed by the cows breath.
Nous sommes arrivés en France! We are staying in this lovely country for two months this spring. Our primary residence is Lyon, the third largest city in France, located to the southwest. It is a historical, cultural, and very picturesque city founded as the Roman city of Lugdunum, spread out over two hills and two rivers -- the Saône and Rhône.
With side trips to locations as diverse as Paris, Perpignan, Aix-en-Provence, and more, Steve and I aim to get our fill of a country neither of us has seen in a decade, and enjoy the cuisine, culture, language practice, scenery, and generally, la vie quotidienne.

The wildlife trusts have established a few of these animals on the salt marsh between the River Mersey, with flats at Runcorn in the distance, and the Sankey Canal. They are said to like the vegetation and keep the grasses cropped to encourage small mammals and other wildlife as distinct from that attracted to the adjacent reedbeds. They didn't appear to be fierce, just curious, but I didn't get too close!
I took this one from my car, they were next to the fence when I first saw them but we were in a hurry to get to the airport, so naturely when I came back by they were on the other side of the pasture taking a break. They have some really nice horns! Can't rememeber what this breed is called I think they orginated in either Africa or Brazil, shoot may have been India I don't know they are beautiful cows to me.
