Took this long exposure pic, just before the rain came.

Was mucking around with Long Exposure pics and decided to put myself in one. tried to sit still for 120 Seconds, but as you can see it didn't exactly turn out perfectly... Still, the lighting in the scene is nice enough, and there's a bit of nice LE Cloud sweep...

The plan was to get closer to the sea level and make long exposure pics. But with 4-6 meter waves and a very strong wind there was this enormous spray of salt water going up tens of meters that plan was a 'no go'. Even though from this altitude i had to clean lens and camera

"Time is a river; the key to happiness is not to try and hold on to every passing droplet, but to enjoy the flow".

Not an old Chinese proverb, simply something I came up with while shooting long exposure pics of water.

A long exposure picture I recently took in Hastings, UK. I also shaked the giant sparkling stick in the small boat... Lots of fun.

Although the sun sets inland at this time of year in Dorset, I did pop down last night for a long exposure pic or two - can't help but feel this has been done before but hey ho!

I remember driving to this place at the crack of dawn like it was yesterday. The scenery on the 3 hour drive from Te Anau was stunning. Perfect weather. Foggy at dawn and cleared up pretty quickly. My skills were limited then and I lost my tripod mid week of my stay in NZ so I could not shoot any long exposure pics. I was on the 1st cruiser out of Milford Sound. The breakfast served on it was surprisingly good! The scenery was so stunning that I forgot to eat half of my breakfast! After the cruise I wandered off the parking lot and stumbled on this scene. I nearly passed out!!! The water was like glass, there's sunshine, just a perfect scene!! This is the best I could do with no tripod and limitted skills at that time.If I could do the shoot over again I'm sure it'll be 100 time better than this.I will be back!!!

This is a long exposure pic taken in Sterling Heights Michigan. It was pretty cold out and I was standing out there for quite a while haha

Long exposure pic of Boulder Falls in Washington State. @BWFenton was able to add a sun flare as well.

One week in Valencia and never any clouds to make a nice long exposure pic with these fantastic buildings in Valencia. The curved bridges seemed like the natural frame in the absence of a fired up sky.

I just had to try some long exposure pics one morning ;)

a long exposure shot taken at sunset on the top of the pic du midi with the pyrenees in the background

Went a couple of hours searching for a good spot to take long exposure pics. I realized I would need a couple of nights if not a week to find the absolute best spots. But still, came across this nice and quiet bridge for pedestrians only over Figueroa and the 2nd or 3rd St in Bunker Hill, L.A. With a nice view of skyscrapers and downtown activity. Would love to stay more, go back and take a hundred long exposure shots if I lived in L.A. but time is not on my side. Next time!

For anybody miffed about my caption regarding keeping my dogs out of long exposure pics, I seek to rectify this situation and hereby present Mako, the Hungarian Vizsla. Alfie, our other dog is a Giant Schnauzer and being black is completely impossible to photo (even if he did sit still for more than 1/250 of a second :-)

Oh, and I personally would not have added this pic to my People set but I asked Mako and he said he definately is a people.

Edit: Stunned silence as I realise I don't belong to any dog groups... omg

Further edit: omg I do now!

It's so good to have a great tripod when shooting long exposure pics at night, highly recommend Sirui R2004 : )

a wave, i took this early in the morning again . It's interesting to be up at 5 or 6 am , because i could take long exposure pics and there are not many people around.

Took the liberty of snapping this long exposure pic when I was up here shooting time lapse video. The moonless night made for some really nice shots.

Stunning sunset over Lake Thun.

Taken from a boat's landing place in Merligen. The striking mountain on the left is the Niesen and in the middle you see the Stockhorn.

This is my very first shot with neutral density filters. I always admired those long exposures pics with the smooth and silky water. The result is acceptable but still in need of improvement...

Lake Thun (German: Thunersee) is an Alpine lake in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. It took its name from the city of Thun, on its northern shore.

Lake Thun's approximately 2,500 kmΒ² large catchment area frequently causes local flooding after heavy rainfalls. This occurs because the river Aar (German: Aare), which drains Lake Thun, has only limited capacity to handle the excess runoff.

The lake is fed by water from Lake Brienz to the south east, which lies 6 metres higher than Lake Thun, and various streams in the Oberland, including the Kander (only since 1714). Lake Thun was created after the last ice age and was originally part of Lake Brienz. The historic combined lake is called Wendelsee by geologists and historians.

Fishing is important enough to keep a handful of professional fishers employed. In 2001 the total catch was 53,000 kg. Since 1835 passenger ships have operated on the lake. There are ten passenger ships in total, operated by the local railway company BLS LΓΆtschbergbahn.

The Niesen is a mountain, located in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, overlooking Lake Thun and is often called the Swiss Pyramid.

The summit of the mountain (2362 metres) can be reached easily with a funicular from MΓΌlenen (near Reichenbach). The construction of the Niesenbahn funicular was completed in 1910. Alongside the path of the Niesenbahn is the longest stairway in the world with 11,674 steps. It is open only once a year to the public for a stair run.

The Niesen was the subject of a number of paintings by Paul Klee, in which it was represented as a quasi-pyramid.

The Stockhorn is a mountain in the Bernese Alps, above the town of Erlenbach in Simmetal.

The Stockhorn is 2190 m high and is accessible via cable car and/or walking during 3 hours 30 minutes from the Oberstockensee. It has a restaurant at the top and is a good starting point for many hikes. There is good fishing in the two lakes right below the Stockhorn, the Oberstockensee(around 1650 m high and the Hinterstockensee ( around 1550 m high). There is a subterraneous water connection bettween the two lakes.

From the top you may enjoy, in a sunny day, a marvellous, unbelievable Panorama or sight with all the main summit of the Alps, the Eiger, Monk, Jungfrau, Diableretes and Mont Blanch, among them, the, the valley of the Aare river, Thun the Poral of the Alps, the Thunesee, the city of Interlaken and the Jura Region.

On a windy day itΒ΄s kind of challenging to shoot long exposure pics, while the strong wind shakes the tripod. This is shot with a ten stop greyfilter.

Just a little something about this image.. I took that long exposure pic at Cooden beach [East Sussex-UK] when it was slowly getting dark. Usually the best time for light painting, especially on the beach as I find it relaxing and creative. Anyway there were a few people on the beach on that evening and I remember that man walking toward me in a distance with his dog next to him, probably wondering what I was doing waving my 'broomstick' [home-made light tool where I taped some Xmas lights on it] around in the dark.. he actually avoided me in the end certainly thinking I was some kind of lunatic! Light painting can be a bit scary if you don't know about it :)

ISO 100 f/16 6.5s. 1 SB-800 @ 17mm 1/16th power inside of Pocket Softbox aimed at command dial triggered with pocket wizard plus IIs. Green light painted in using the LED flash from my iPhone with 2 Rosco Tough Green Gels doubled over.

For non camera people, Canon cameras have a green box where Nikon has the Green Auto Camera icon. I got this idea after a conversation with a friend (Canon Shooter) who told me he had recently started to venture outside of "The Green Box". Anyone who looks at my EXIF data will see I almost exclusively shoot in Manual Mode, the exception is available light photos I might shoot in Aperture-priority; even with available light I shoot in manual if I don't need to shoot photos back to back quickly. From whitebalace to ISO I like to dial everything in manually. On this shot, I even dialed the focus in on the command dial manually by zooming in on the live view to get a precise focus.

until tomorrow,

enjoy
