From our recent day out at Gidleigh Common on Dartmoor. After spending some time at the impressive Scorhill stone circle we walked towards the river and crossed a lovely old clapper bridge. We picknicked near that lonely tree. Don't let the dark black and white conversion fool you - it had been a very sunny and lovely day outdoors!
I found a dead Owl by the roadside, a few weeks ago and think it may have been this bird's partner. Hopefully they had no young or this Owl will be very busy feeding them. I was struck by how beautiful his eyes were and noticed his primary and tail feathers were quite worn, still a handsome boy though!

The Buttermere loner - The iconic lone birch tree on the shoreline of a superbly still and calm Buttermere under the full glare of the morning sun with a sky loaded with cirrus cloud. The reflected backdrop of Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks just adds to the sense of peace and tranquillity.

On mount Hymettus only a few pine trees survived after many waves of arsons in the past. They are there, offering their shadow and coolness to us hikers and we are truly grateful to them. We are looking forward to their thriving.
