This reflection of The Shard really caught my eye while I was walking along the Thames towards London Bridge recently.

Aprovechando el corto viaje a Reino Unido, decidí practicar fotografía de arquitectura y este es el resultado.

After many years of restoration, this iconic London building is finally open to the public. I went on Sunday to have a little look and it was pretty impressive, although there were far too many people there for my liking!

When I went back to take pictures early on a weekday I had an interesting chat with the staff there who said photography with my DSLR wasn’t allowed which is a shame, especially seeing as loads of people with DSLRs were there snapping away on Sunday afternoon.

I wrote to the management asking if I could be permitted to take photos (strictly hobbyist, not commercial) legitimately, but sadly they didn’t respond, so I guess I may be limited to just posting the few iPhone and RX100 snaps for the time being, as using a smartphone doesn’t seem to raise the alarms like a big camera does.

It seems I could take exactly the same photo with my phone as I would with a camera and post it to exactly the same places and that would be okay, but that just shows the silliness of the system.

I’ve had similar encounters at several London locations, and no-one’s ever been able to satisfactorily explain precisely how these rules make sense. You’d think they might appreciate the free publicity, but hey ho.

Anyway, all that aside, I was pretty happy with how this shot of an almost people-free Turbine Hall A from one of the balconies ...

Difficult to tell these days with all the chaos going on with the Conservative goverment.

Regardless of that, this is still an impressive building to behold, with its Neo-Gothic styling and iconic clock tower.

A view directly up, taking in the skyscraper huddle in the City of London, including The Leadenhall Building, St. Helen’s Tower, 22 Bishopsgate, 100 Bishopsgate and 1 Great St. Helens. This area has been changing rapidly since the turn of the millennium, and more new towers seem to be cropping up every year these days …

The last set of escalators exiting the station, do wonder if the “stop” sign is a subliminal message to stop, turn around, and head home!

Tidying up and clearing down images and found this one that thought maybe worth an edit. Came out looking quite effective, break in the cloud almost looking like lightning.
