Trad'r Sam is a Polynesian-themed, dive bar in the Outer Richmond District of San Francisco. It is about 1.6 miles (2.7 kilometers) from the Pacific Ocean.

In the early/mid 80s a very, very good friend (one of my college roommates) was living a few blocks from the bar and we'd visit the joint semi-regularly. Generally, the people in the bar were stinking drunk so we fit in easily and felt comfortable.

In the past few years, because rents are so high in San Francisco's "inner" neighborhoods (those closer to downtown), young people who can't afford, or don't want to pay the higher rents, and who live in this district have "discovered" Trad'r Sam. So Thursday through Saturday the bar is generally packed with young people. In that regard, frequently, you can see colorful puke on the streets outside the bar as the sweet, high alcohol drinks affect those people who don't realize how drunk they're getting.
