As you can see there is no need to be a skilled burglar to open it: it is enough to have something lifting the shoe-shaped piece and pushing the latch at the same time.

While I was shooting this evening for a whole set of 'New Wonderland', this lock caught my attention the most =D

Trent Lock is the area of canal locks around the point where the River Soar (flowing northwards) meets the River Trent (at this point flowing east). Near this point two canals also meet the Trent - the Erewash Canal, coming south-east from Long Eaton, and the short Cranfleet Cut which provides a route for boats heading downstream on the Trent, avoiding a weir.
Teddington Lock is a complex of three locks and a weir on the River Thames between Ham and Teddington in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, England. It was first built in 1810.
The limit of legal powers between the Port of London Authority, the navigation authority downstream to the North Sea and that upstream to small headwaters of the river, the Environment Agency, is marked nearby by an obelisk on the Surrey bank. Teddington Weir marks the river's usual tidal limit and is the lowest on the Thames. This lock is the lowest full-tide lock and second lowest of all-tide locks on the Thames.
The complex of civil engineering consists of a large long weir and three locks: a conventional launch lock in regular use, a very large barge lock and a small skiff lock. The barge lock was made to accommodate long barges, steamers or passenger ferries and has an additional set of gates half-way to operate more quickly for shorter craft. The staggered structures incorporate two reinforced narrow islands. The upper island is traversed by and accessible by the lock gates or Teddington Lock Footbridge.
It's been hot as hell this past week. I'm hiding indoors to keep away from most of the heat, so now I feel cramped and locked up in my own house!
I think a lock is science because of the mechanics and what goes on inside the lock to make the door open.
The rusty lock on the galvanized steel door of the wood shed. It's been there a long time, but still opens with the key. If you look closely, the spider webs are visible.
This old lock catched my eye, because of the great color with the door and the lovely handcrafted details.. They don't make these anymore...
A little more work with some extra wall and some greenery around the bottom and the scene becomes more realistic. A tree has been added behind the wall, and the whole has been photographed in front of a photographic backscene for the full effect.
A smear of cooking oil gives the impression of an oil stain on the tarmac.

When we look around the streets as photographers we often concentrate to much on looking for that 'moment' and often overlook what I would describe as the macro architecture which is constantly around us and can tell stories just as much about the human experience.
This is part of a series call macro street which looks at objects to define a human story behind them.

Dogwood week 12: Orange
A new shed was built in our back yard, equipped with slide latches where padlocks could be deployed. However the normal padlocks which we had on our old shed don't really work well with this type of latch. More likely these are just the cheapest and worst latches that the builder was able to find. Resulting doors that look locked at first sight, but with a bit of adjustment of the padlock can be opened easily without a key.
