Midway Mall in Elyria, Ohio
August 2025 update
Midway Mall was built in 1966 with Sears, Woolworth (later Best Buy), JCPenney, and Higbee's (later Dillard's) as anchor stores. In 1990, a new wing with a food court and May Company department store (later Kaufmann's then Macy's) was added.
Today, the mall is kind of in limbo. It may or may not have finally been sold to Industrial Commercial Properties after being managed by the Lorain County Port Authority for the last several years. The mall is planned to be turned into industrial properties, but it seems those plans keep getting delayed. The mall only has a handful of open businesses, with FinishLine, LensCrafters, and Yihi Japan remaining as the only chain establishments.
A Dunham's Sports is still open in the old Steve & Barry's, but no longer opens its gate into the mall. The old May Company/ Kaufmann's/Macy's is now Johnny K's Powersports, but that also doesn't open into the mall. The other anchor spaces are all closed. I noticed the inside of the mall had a number of serious leaks that don't seem like they are getting fixed. Also, the plants in the food court look like they are dying from lack of water.
If ICP does or has already taken over, it is very likely this mall will be shut down with very short notice.
