Catching last rays of sun...

This species of sparrow are very localized on the Eastern Seaboard of the US. They are salt marsh specialists and found almost exclusively in this type of ecosystem. I am fortunate to live within driving distance of a local population and decided to photograph them for the first time this morning. They are difficult birds to get completely isolated as they prefer to hang in the mid section of the reeds for protection. I find the Seaside Sparrow to be not only unique but quite handsome. Please view large for this habitat shot.
As always, Thank you for stopping by~!
They have been known to bite humans if handled. Verified bites have caused no major medical problems. Localized itchiness at the bite site has been reported in some cases.

Coeloglossum viride (Orchidaceae) 162 22
Coeloglossum viride is a widespread but highly localized orchid with a circumferential distribution throughout most of Europe. Its choice of habitat is extremely varied and the species can be found in dry or wet conditions, in full sun or shade and on alkaline or acid substrates. Although it may occur at high altitudes throughout its distribution, in the south of it is range it is virtually confined to mountain grasslands and light woodland. Coeloglossum viride can tolerate altitudes up to nearly 3000 meters and is perfectly at home growing alongside more specialized Alpine orchids such as the Vanilla Orchids.

Serapias orientalis (Orchidaceae) 117 23
Serapias orientalis is a member of the Serapias vomeracea group of Serapias. Its name is a reference to its easterly distribution in the Mediterranean.
It is a localized species but can be abundant in its favored locations, this generally being a position in full sun on damp (even wet) alkaline soils.

This was from the superbloom of 2019, and I'm hoping for another this spring. We're getting so much rain there's localized flooding, so here's hoping!

From Wikipedia: The black-fronted nunbird (Monasa nigrifrons) is a species of bird in the family Bucconidae, the puffbirds.
It is found in Amazonian Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru; also regions of eastern and southeastern Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical and tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical and tropical swamps, and heavily degraded former forest.
The black-fronted nunbird has a black body and bright red-orange bill. It is found in small gregarious groups in lower to mid-level forests.
Distribution:
The black-fronted nunbird is found principally in the Amazon Basin south of the Amazon River. It also occurs at the confluence of the Rio Negro (north of the Amazon) and upstream along the Amazon itself. Its range extends south and east beyond the Tocantins River towards the Cerrado region of east-central Brazil; it is also found in the Pantanal, though not the very southern portion.
The southwest and western regions of black-fronted nunbird's range occur in Amazonian Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and southern Colombia, with the Amazonian Colombian region being the southwest portion of the entire northwestern Amazon region. The species' range is mostly contiguous, although there are two localized populations in eastern coastal Brazil: the northern population in Alagoas state, and the southern locale in Rio de Janeiro state.

The lovebug is a species of march fly found in parts of Central America and the southeastern United States, especially along the Gulf Coast. Localized lovebug flights can number in the millions. Male/female pairs (joined tail-to-tail) will hover in the air, drifting slowly. Two major flights occur each year; the spring flight occurs during late April and May, and the summer flight occurs during late August and September. Flights extend over periods of four to five weeks. Mating takes place almost immediately after emergence of the females. Adult females live only three to four days, while males live a little longer. They have to stick to each other at all times.

Through some localized snowsqualls, CP 6248 leads T78 through Innerkip, Ontario as they approach their destination of the Pender Toyota Yard. I'm not sure how I feel about SD60s on local trains, but any day I can just pretend this is a 147 in 2017 and move on, lol.
Due to a blazing bright moon on Sunday evening I decided to try and image the iconic Horsehead Nebula in Orion using my narrowband Hydrogen Alpha (Ha) filter.
The first time I have imaged this nebula!
The Horsehead Nebula is a small dark nebula situated just south of Orion's belt and close to the bright star Alnitak, the eastern most star of said belt.
The nebula is approximately 1375 light years from earth and gets its name from its resemblance to a horse's head or a knight chess piece! Although the more I look at it it reminds me of a Seahorse!
The deep red colour originates from ionised Hydrogen gas (Ha) behind the nebula. The energy source being the nearby star Sigma Orionis.
Visible foreground streaks within the ionised gas are due to magnetic forces channelling the gas into streams.
The background strip of glowing hydrogen gas marks the edge of an enormous cloud.
Heavy localized interstellar clouds of dust result in alternate areas of almost complete opacity and transparency within the Horsehead.
The darkness of the Horsehead is caused by this dark, thick dust blocking the starlight behind it.
Imaged with an Esprit 120ED refractor and a ZWO 1600MM camera/Baader Ha filter combo.

Very localized and poorly-known seedeater. Mostly known from northeastern Argentina and southern Paraguay, but also a disjunct cluster of records in Bolivia and Brazil. Might undergo seasonal movements. Males have blackish or dark brown throat and cheek (sometimes extending onto nape and upper breast), gray crown, and unmarked tan underparts. Females are pale sandy-brown overall; note dark bill. Look for pairs or small flocks in open grassy habitats, often mixed with other seedeaters.
ENDANGERED. Capuchino seedeaters are highly susceptible to anthropogenic disturbance of their grassland habitat, which is rapidly being converted for agricultural use, the intensification of livestock practices and afforestation. This species is categorized as globally Endangered on the basis of its very small population size, the potential for habitat loss and degradation, and the potential for capture for the pet trade.
