the concrete core is there for the load bearing function while the metal columns take the tensile forces that are important from wind on the building above the glass roof ...

Lobbies of office buildings in Chicago's Loop can be grand and inviting. This corner has many photogenic spots so I camped out and waited for a scene to develop in the fading twilight.

Taken through a dirty window. This is the lobby of the famous Goldfield Hotel. Once the finest hotel west of the Mississippi. Has been abandoned for a long time now. Gotta love those prints in the dust on those seats - somebody was in there. Several tv shows have been made here, usually paranormal type shows.
