False Creek

Canada
Evening, sundown. Low in the sky sunlight reflections off the high rises across the inlet.
False Creek is a short inlet in the heart of Vancouver. It separates downtown from the rest of the city. It was named by George Henry Richards during his Hydrographic survey of 1856-63. George Richards named False Creek during his survey of the coast in the mid-19th century. While traveling along the south side of the Burrard Inlet, he thought he was traversing a creek; upon discovering his error, he gave the waterway its modern name. Wikipedia

I was waiting for my turn to dock in Hackensack, New Jersey when the roll up door of the dock on the opposite side of the road opened. Watched as this man shook out the debris from his mop. Seemed like the best photo op I was going to get in this rather grungy old warehouse filled area of town.
A blending of layers from my overcast grey drive today. The only color is from the "difference" filter.
Traffic lights and the vertical white wall of the Tiffany building along North Terrace, in the late evening sun. The traffic lights are a littls strange - red, amber, blue - are for regulating vehicular traffic down the side lane.
An old storage shed in Cat Spring.....complete with rusted metal siding, electrical wires, a power cord, string, rusted sign, aging wooden door and an empty Dr. Pepper can. Almost forget the hay!

The old loading at the Hurstville Historic District near Maquoketa,IA. A narrow guage railroad track ran next to this structure and was loaded with lime created by the nearby kilns to be shipped around the country.Back in the first part of the 1900's,lime was used in masonry work and bridge construction. When the use of the cheaper and stronger Portland cement grew, the kilns were shutdown in the late 1920's.
Hurstville was a company town with its own school, stores, and hospital. A company farm supplied the town. As late as the late '70s,the abandoned townsite and farm still existed-now all that remains are the 4 kilns and this loading dock. The Hurstville Interpretive Center was built some years back to remember the history of the town....
