I'd be careful playing with this particular dice if I were you. No matter how much I roll it, it seems always to come up on the number two!
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 3rd of January is "magnets" Unlike a lot of people, I don't have many magnets on my refrigerator, and those I do tend to be from trades and service providers I use. This magnet is the one exception to the rule. Funnily enough I don't actually like it. It is showy and represents gambling of which I am not a fan, but my friend Judy, who sadly died from Alzheimer’s a few years ago, says she bought it in Las Vagas especially for me. She said that she couldn't resist its showy vulgarity and bought different coloured ones to be given to me and to other friends. I keep it as a memory of Judy. At least she got the colour right, as blue is my favourite colour! I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!
34046 Braunton passes Rednal foot crossing ,not the planned shot but word filtered through it had the staycation set behind the support coach so measures were taken with the composition to minimise its presence. the disc code indicates it should be between London bridge and Portsmouth via Horsham !!1-10
A pleasant spring morning finds a loaded coal train climbing the Elkhorn Grade and crossing over through the CP at Maybeury. The signal bridges here always struck me as they seemed to follow the superelevation of the curve here - which I imagine back in the N&W days with passenger trains was more severe than it is now.
Well I didn't intend to post this, but there you go. Light room took care of it for me and it is what it is. The spots you see in the background is Rain. I was stuck undercover during a rainstorm and this little guy came to check in on us and make sure we didn't have any peanuts.
In very challenging light, in fact for the train departure the morning sun couldn't have aligned any closer to head-on, limiting photography options a little.

We are fortunate to have beautiful weather in SoCal this weekend. Looking forward to wandering with cameras, especially film ones!
White House Food Products is a family owned business since 1908 and besides their applesauce I also use their Apple Cider Vinegar. :)
The last light on a grey dull Saturday afternoon is brightened by the sight of a hard working Freightliner class 66 heading north from Doncaster on the East Coast Main Line. Passing down loop at Arksey and about to cross one of the numerous level crossings.
I wasn’t down in the ballast trespassing to get this shot it was taken from behind a fence and is cropped from a 200mm zoom image.

The WNYP's OL-2 job has slowed significantly as the two AC6000's lift a loaded sand train up the grade over Keating Summit, Pennsylvania and heads toward the Emporium transload on a stormy day.

A nice pair of power units lead this mixed train south through Duplainville.
Off to the left and along the road was our good friend Lonnie as he got his shots of this unknown train while they slow down to hold up before they get the signal over the diamond of the CP Watertown Sub.

With freshly snow capped peaks of the Talkeetna Mountains standing above, Alaska railroad 4005 leads the AS&G gravel train down the siding at Matanuska junction to meet the northbound MEX. The peaks of these mountains were just about bare when we arrived the week prior to this and as you can see they got a good dumping of fresh snow in that week. The line to the right in the photo is the Palmer branch where the AS&G loads just a couple miles up the line and is the only train to traverse the branch these days. The mainline is out of view and hidden in the woods to the left. The AS&G and QAP gravel trains run in a 1x1 configuration these days cutting out the need for a shoving platform or a run around move even though the AS&G will still shove down from the load out using the wye here at the junction to prevent having to change ends.
A loaded limestone train chugs upgrade near Campo Belo, Brazil, with four former North American locomotives for power.
Leading the train are former Southern Pacific and Contrail B36-7s while the mid-train DP locomotives in the background are a former Norfolk & Western C36-7 and another Conrail B36-7.
They were heavily modified after arriving in Brazil in the early 2000s and are all BB36-7s today with eight axles for the tight curvature narrow gauge lines in Brazil.

A day when dark clouds heralded hail storms and scudding squalls, all in all my perfect sort of beach day. Loaded Gun is by The Dead 60's , I seem to spend the day dodging bullets. It's been so wet this winter and early spring, we're due a bit of sun so I can feed my adder obsession.
BNSF 6577 leads a northbound loaded ballast train (U-LAJGUE) heading towards Castle Rock during the first hour of sunlight. Note this northbound is reverse running on Main Track 1 which is the dedicated southbound track of the Joint Line.
Good to see a liner loaded for a change, after a couple of days of lightly loaded liners, this made a change, especially catching the patch of sun.
