Here's my first photo from a week-long trip I took to southeast Oregon. These are the Pillars of Rome, and you can read just a bit more about them at my blog.

Freightliner's 59004 slowly emerges from the morning mist at Fairwood Junction with 0832 Whatley Quarry to Oxford Banbury Road working.

The resultant heavy dew has also sorely tested the load bearing qualities of the spiders webs, a test passed.

Only got 2 hours sleep last night, so I feel like my poor old brain is still loading... :)

DC Rail 60046 'William Wilberforce' is seen in Southampton Up Yard loading its train ready to depart to Willesden in the morning. 12/06/2020

Thirty minutes behind A439 we see CN train U716, an empty ore train headed to UTAC's Fairlane plant to load pellets and turn back to Proctor. The all EMD consist consisting of CN SD40-2W 5349 and repainted DMIR 'tunnel motors' 404 and 405 is approaching the Munger Shaw Rd. crossing at MP 14 on CN's North Division Missabe Sub mainline. Modern day CN's designation for this route pays homage to the historic former Duluth, Missabe and Northern Railroad which was incorporated in 1891, ran its first train in 1892 and built into Duluth proper in 1893. In 1938 the road was merged into the Duluth and Iron Range both long owned by US Steel to officially create the legendary Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway.

Passing overhead is MP 18.9 on CN's Rainy Sub, the former Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway mainline. Today the CN uses the two lines as a directional mainline for all their 'core' traffic which is how they refer to their non iron ore related thru trains to and from Canada. All southbound trains (manifest, grain, oil, intermodal etc.) take the Rainy while all northbound counterpartsuse the Missabe for a distance of about 60 miles between Nopeming Jct. on the south and Shelton Jct. on the north. But with both north and southbound ore and limestone trains using this lower line it sees far more traffic than it's counterpart overhead.

The UP's Marsh Job, LPA-55, pulls two loads of scrap from Miller Compressing in Walker's Point.

This is one of three semi-regular customers for the UP in Walker's Point, but the traffic for delivery of empties and pickup of loads is fairly inconsistent.

But I don't see any load at all.

A few hours after going east at South Bay, 59 loads return west, seen here at Canal Harbor.

Loading point at the colliery at Sanbao, Liaoning Province, China, looked to be closed but the presence of loaded wagons told another story. The mines in this area were extensively developed by the Japanese during their occupation in the 1930s and early 1940s. All now demolished with a new road running along the line of the railway.

BNSF 6008 leads a southbound coal load past the iconic red barn at Greenland, CO. April 2, 2021.

I have been shooting loads and loads recently and I don't think I've been enjoying my photography this much. Not sure whats up with this sudden burst but I'm loving it! I have been loving getting away all my final year work and having a break from it for a couple of hours. I have been pretty busy and keep forgetting to post anything so thought I should get one up somewhen. Being able to experience scenes like this one certainly help me come home happy and get on with some more work :)

PS: Still not sure about the sun in this image, this image is blended from 3 different exposures but I can't work out if the sun looks right. Any comments are much appreciated :)

Westbound grain loads are parked in front of the West Coast Express station in Port Coquitlam

"Stick" Shilman and Brandon Terrell arrive at "103" in the 900 with an equipment transport for Mill 5/dry sort from town. The 988 log loader could be easily moved by flat car between the Mill Three and Five sites as needed.

At a tiny speck on the map known as Brimson, a loaded train from Arcelor Mittal's Minorca Mine creeps towards the siding where it will meet an empty train heading for US Steel's Minntac Mine. Leading the way is the Illinois Central SD40-2 6251, the last black unit on the CN roster still sporting a white frame stripe.

The Port of Geelong is Victoria's second busiest, and grain transport (mostly wheat) is a major factor. Here a ship registered in Monrovia (the capital of African country Liberia) is loading. Ships like this are often referred to as having flags of convenience. Shipping companies often save millions of dollars registering ships in countries that offer little more than a paper registration. I do like the creative name though with a touch of the classical, "Minoan Courage".

There are already some awesome Power Loaders out there like those from Larry Lars and ninbendo.

I wanted to have a go and try to get a small scale loader close to the one used by Ripley. The leg mod allows for a small amount of articulation.

'Marra Man' has finished loading the 12.17 Peak Forest Cemex to Selby and poses for his fan club on the bridge before backing in the latest train of empties from Hope Street standing on the main line.

WNYP's stone train for Turtlepoint is being live loaded at Machias, New York on August 6, 2019. If I remember right I believe we counted on average eight buckets to a car. The load time was about three hours of which half of it occurred during a torrential downpour. This is shoreline railroading, whatever it takes to serve the customers.

E-M5 + M.Zuiko 17mm f1.8

Hi everybody! Well I still don't have my new camera. The story of my life, right?! Anyways, I miss you all and being on Flickr so I'm posting something from the archives in the meantime. I'll try to be more active on here. And since I start school in 3 weeks, I'll be on my computer daily.

Thanks so much for stopping by my Flickr friends!
