Sand lizard in breeding colours emerging from its burrow to bask in the watery sun. Anything better than nothing I'm guessing. Wide distribution over Europe and over to furthest Russia but not so common in the UK. Lacerta agilis
Also known as the 'viviparous lizard', the common lizard is unusual among reptiles as it incubates its eggs inside its body and 'gives birth' to live young rather than laying eggs.
I have been yearning to take some macro photos...and really miss flowers, but am worried about what the kittens would do with them, so I got the marbles out last night and tried to find different ways to photograph them. Have a wonderful Tuesday.
Does anyone know what type of lizard this is? We havn't seen those before so i am wondering who are they. This one is pretty friendly :)
Not being a lizard behaviorist, I'd still want to say this dude was showing his colors for a female. There was a smaller blah one and they were either frolicking or he was chasing - I couldn't tell. I watched them for a few minutes flitting around up and over the terrain before they disappeared into deeper stuff.
Just recently the local lizards have been very flighty, and so when you move the grasses aside to get a clear shot there they are ... gone! This fella was very obliging and just stayed sunning itself until I put the grasses back and left him/her in peace!
Popped out to see the Sand Lizards (Lacerta agilis) a few weeks ago and found the Male still in his lovely bright green breeding colours, along with a Female to which he was not letting out of his sight and guarding her very closely.

The Australian water dragon (Intellagama lesueurii) is a lizard species from the same suborder as iguanas. There are two subspecies of Australian water dragons: Intellagama lesueurii lesueurii, the eastern water dragon, and Intellagama lesueurii howittii, the Gippsland water dragon. Both species are native to Australia. The eastern water dragon lives along Australia’s east coast, while the Gippsland water dragon lives further south.

Warm weather has brought out the lizards on wallsalong the seafront at Holywell, Eastbourne.
I believe this is a European Wall Lizard.
I found this tiny lizard on our kitchen floor the other night -- something that happens two or three times a year, always with baby lizards, never adults. They either wander in when we leave the door open, or hitch a ride on our big fuzzy dog after he's been outside rooting around in the garden (we've actually seen this happen). The babies are thinner than a pencil at this age.
Another sand lizard shot from last weekend. This shows the lovely markings of the male in full breeding colours.
