Lizard near the golden triangle, Thailand, Lao border

Also known as the 'viviparous lizard', the common lizard is unusual among reptiles as it incubates its eggs inside its body and 'gives birth' to live young rather than laying eggs.

'LIZARDS IN WAITING.'

An image made in early June this year, of the top of the local Lizard Orchid spike - (aka 'Leicestershire Lizzie'). She looked in fine condition and was just awaiting warm, sunny weather to open and reveal her lizards!

NB: She had to wait a long time though, June weather was grey, wet and chilly :-(

Lovely to see this lizard sunbathing at RSPB Minsmere today! The black wood at the edge of the steps to a bird hide was the perfect place to warm up. So much so that people coming and going (and taking photos) didn't seem to disturb it at all!

Not being a lizard behaviorist, I'd still want to say this dude was showing his colors for a female. There was a smaller blah one and they were either frolicking or he was chasing - I couldn't tell. I watched them for a few minutes flitting around up and over the terrain before they disappeared into deeper stuff.

Just recently the local lizards have been very flighty, and so when you move the grasses aside to get a clear shot there they are ... gone! This fella was very obliging and just stayed sunning itself until I put the grasses back and left him/her in peace!

I love lizards, and where we live they are plentiful. You have to be a good spotter to see them a lot of times because blending in is one of their greatest talents! I really like this guy's toes and the way he is hanging on and pretending to ignore me. One false move and he could bolt! Hugs and Thanks for viewing! =o)

One section of a mature Lizard Orchid spike growing on a roadside verge in Leicestershire. The flowers were all in prime, undamaged condition and their 'lizard tails' were being blown by a breeze, so lots of movement.

I had some business to attend in Newcastle today; so made the most of it by stopping by at a lookout above Merewether Ocean Baths where I planned on taking some midday LE images using my Big Stopper and new 5D Mark iv

As chance would have it; there was a Male Eastern Water Dragon (lizard) sunning itself a couple of feet away from me.

He seemed fairly placid and didn't seem too worried about my presence or portrait taking (although I think he might be sick as a result of the infestation of ticks that seem to be covering his neck area!!).

I initially thought that he had been injured as I could see what I thought to be blood on his chest and underside - but a Google check (for his ID) indicates this color as being normal for the males of this breed!!

Hope you like this image - it's a BIG file so be sure to enjoy viewing LARGE on Black!!

Thanks for any comments, views or favorites - much appreciated!!

Wishing you all a wonderful day and week ahead!!

Garden lizard pretty common here.

Also known as a Blue-Bellied Lizard

Warm weather has brought out the lizards on wallsalong the seafront at Holywell, Eastbourne.

I believe this is a European Wall Lizard.

I found this tiny lizard on our kitchen floor the other night -- something that happens two or three times a year, always with baby lizards, never adults. They either wander in when we leave the door open, or hitch a ride on our big fuzzy dog after he's been outside rooting around in the garden (we've actually seen this happen). The babies are thinner than a pencil at this age.

Another sand lizard shot from last weekend. This shows the lovely markings of the male in full breeding colours.
