A new tribute painting of the Patron Saint of Cancer Sufferers, Saint Peregrine by expressionist artist Stephen B. Whatley.
Saint Peregrine is also the Patron Saint of AIDS and other illnesses as well as Cancer - so may all those who meditate upon the image, created and infused with prayers, receive light, hope, protection and ultimate healing relief. Peace.
The artist - a Catholic convert since 2011 - often gets, through prayer, what he feels a 'Divine Push' to paint such Christian tributes and felt directed to paint Saint Peregrine, with prayers for healing, light and hope for those suffering cancer in his life - and worldwide.
He had a deep feeling the day of painting - 21 February - was a significant date; and later, after painting, realised it was the day in 1935 that Jesus had appeared to the Polish nun, Sister ( since 2000, Saint) Faustina, requesting she seek an artist and have a painting made depicting His Divine Mercy.
Stephen B. Whatley has painted several Divine Mercy images over the years; some of which were exhibited in his 2013 exhibition 'Paintings From Prayer' at London's Westminster Cathedral. There is a permanent walkway of his series of 30 paintings for the Tower of London, outside Tower Hill Station, London.
Peregrine Laziosi (Italy, c.1260-1345) experienced a miracle of healing in his own life, at 60, when a cancerous growth in his leg threatened amputation. The night before the amputation he spent praying before a fresco of The Crucifixion and later in a sleep state felt Jesus descend from The Cross to touch his leg. The next day the doctors found no trace of the cancer and he was pronounced cured; word spreading quickly of the power of Trust in the Lord.

He was fine on thurs. morning, on fri. morning, we had to put him down because of cancer... i HATE cancer!!!
Totally out of the blue he was sick.. 10 Hrs passed between the time we last played and the time he got sick.. Good bye Bailey, you will be missed for a very long time!
While on a errand today we spotted this TARC bus parked, idling, both to and from our destination. aka Running. No driver at the wheel. For at least 1/2 hour.

This stop is the "end of the line" (or the beginning however one looks at it). When I was attempting to learn the bus lines a while back (didn't turn out well) there was a lady driver who'd sit at the driver's seat having her lunch. If you went near the bus while she was having lunch she'd bark your head off. Once I dropped a nickel and could not find it, she said, "Honey, you need full fare to ride on this bus" - I needed to be in court - I missed the court date - I have a warrant out for my arrest. I no longer care. I do see that lady is no longer driving this bus.

A year after his last serious illness and he has been very unwell again for more than a month.
He is very weak and can hardly climb up onto the sofa to sit with us. We've put a small stool to the side so he doesn't have to climb the whole height in one go. Even so, he sometimes needs to be lifted onto the sofa from the stool. He lets us know this with a pathetic little call so different from his former imperious yells that it is heartbreaking to hear. His favourite position is stretched out sphynx-like on the floor. I've just left him in the living room like that to go to my bed. Possibly, he does this to alleviate the pain he must be feeling in his belly.
He drinks small amounts every now and then and picks at his food, unsurprising considering that he hasn't emptied his bowels properly for a few days. As before, he constantly wants the food in his bowl to be changed but, when it is, he doesn't touch the replacement either. He is just fur covered bones now. If he makes it to Tuesday, he has an appointment at the vet. He may not be coming home from that.
He has danced, while he may, for over 21 years, a great deal longer than most cats are allowed. For practically all of this time, it has been a pleasure to dance (not literally) with him and it has never been dull. If ony we had an eternity in which to dance.
Last night, I had rather rushed the composition of this description as I wanted to check on him again. I found him in the kitchen eyeing the contents of his food bowl rather dubiously. He "requested" that it be changed and I complied, more in hope than expectation. Of course, he only licked the fresh food a bit, cleaned his tongue in the water bowl and waited to see what I would do next. I went over to the living room, sat down in a bean bag and he slowly and painfully followed me. He didn't manage to climb into the bean bag so I hoisted him up into my lap and, after a bit of stumbling about, he ended up supported by my right arm and being fussed by my left hand. When he'd had enough of this, he jumped back onto the floor. Actually it was more like he ended up on the floor by default and every time he does this I am terrified that he will add broken bones to the mounting list of overwhelming medical problems he is facing. He climbed onto the little stool and managed to make it onto the sofa. I left him carving a little hole in which to sleep.
Sleep well, little Ori, and dream of the times we have had together. I hope you enjoyed them as much as we did.

Perhaps Volunteers of America can find a local HVAC company willing to help this poor bank out with an air duct cleaning.
One would think the 6th largest bank in the nation could at least afford to do this for their employees, no?

The compound metarrestin breaks down a component of cancer cells called the perinucleolar compartment (PNC). PNCs are found only in cancer cells, and in a greater number of cells in advanced cancer. In the four panels on the left, the green dots indicate the presence of PNCs in untreated pancreatic and metastatic liver tumors. Meet my mom. For the past four years my mom has been fighting against estrogen receptor positive breast cancer. In the beginning some complications occured, like coughing a hole between her lung and esophagus, causing my parents to travel 600 miles north to Seattle, Washington, and Virginia Mason. There, wonderful and dear doctors have managed to help my mom extend her life. She had a surgery in March of 2005, in which she had her esophagus removed, and the doctors rearranged her stomach to take the place of the esophagus. She constantly fights with an insistent lung infection because the hole will never be fully healed or repaired. Then, from May 2007 to February 2008 she was taking a regimen of chemotherapy every week.
In January and February 2008, my mom was having coordination and speech issues, bad headaches and then she got to where she could hardly move, until we got her to the safest and nearest hospital to help her. They took CAT scans and full body imaging and found tumors on and around her brain; mastastases to the brain. She had a hard two weeks in the hospital and then two more of radiation, which has helped, but now she's had a mastastesis to the liver. She's going through more chemotherapy, and the hope is that she can make it through this as well.
I just recently turned 18, and I'm going to be a senior this coming fall, so I'd really love to have her at my graduation, but that's just me being selfish. She's my mom, and I love her. Bald head cuteness, and all.

Jefferson transplant surgeon Cataldo Doria, MD, PhD, discusses liver auto-transplant (sm.tjuh.org/l80), a rare treatment for patients with liver cancer that cannot be treated with traditional surgery. These are three of the six ribbons on my car. The orange one is for my sister, Judy, who beat Leukemia. The green one is for my Grandpa Lee, who died from bile duct cancer on July 1, 2002. The closest cancer with an official color is liver cancer.
The purple one is just my general feeling on the subject.

This awful disease has taken so many people from us, but there are amazing stories of hope, of support, of bravery and best of all, of triumph. This is for the people we've lost to the battle, the people still fighting the battle and for those who have proven victorious in the battle.

My Mother passed away in January 2004 from Colon Cancer that had metastasised to her liver. I was there, holding her hand, as the battle ended, and it has to be one of the hardest things I have ever done. Yet I am also so proud and honoured that I was able to do that one small thing for her. I miss her more than words can say.
