The Guangzhou Ballet Troupe 广州芭蕾舞团 travelled to western Canada to perform at The Centre as part of the Vancouver Chinese Cultural Festival 2011 温哥华中国文化节 (Oct. 21-23, 2011). More than 30 dancers took part in presenting a variety of ballet dances. The last act of the evening was 梁山伯与祝英台 Shanbo Liang and Tingtai Zhu (The Butterfly Lovers). It is a very famous southern China folk lore. A Romeo and Juliet story for the Chinese audience. In ballet form, the storytelling is through choreography, movement, gesture, music, lighting and imaginative mise-en-scene. Not a single word was spoken. No translation necessary either. Quite a performance. The ‘East Meets West’ cultural exchange festival was organized by the Association of Chinese Cultural Foundation – Canada and APCEO Canada and had the support of the Chinese government (via its Embassy & Consulate General) and all levels (federal, BC provincial and city) of the Canadian government.

We went to hear some live music for the first time in many years tonight, for we were invited by one of my husband's students who also played at After Beat in Kyoto city.
This young girl (not his student) was the last one to perform.
Her name is Aimi, and she did quite well: a strong nice voice and a fine guitarist.
We bought two CDs and will send one to each of our sons.
She is going to have a live performance in Shimokitazawa in Tokyo in the middle of August.
Our youngest son did some performances ( in a rock group) when he was still a highschool student. We didn't have any chance to see them...he was too shy for us to see him perform.

***The rest of the story*** We just learned today(27th) that she graduated from the same highschool this year and performed at the same music festival as my son, and they are friends!!!
後日分かった事ですが、愛美さんは息子と高校の同窓生で,友達でした!!

I was asked to photograph this drum & bass rave at Warehouse On Watts in Philly on Christmas night, so of COURSE I accepted. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the lighting was, too. Made my job a lot easier. Got some pretty cool shots I think. More in my gallery. :)
Location: Warehouse On Watts in Philadelphia PA.

Some pictures taken at the DC Loves Dilla - 9th Annual Tribute and Fundraiser Concert held at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC on Thusday, July 17, 2014 by Mary Nichols (DJ Fusion of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast).
James “J Dilla” Yancey was a GRAMMY award-winning producer who inspired millions with his music including artist like Common, Raekwon, Erykah Badu, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and many many more. On February 10, 2006 just three days after his 32nd birthday, J Dilla passed away after a long time of suffering with Lupus.
Cultural Curator Munch Joseph and HedRush Music created the DC Loves Dilla movement as a way to celebrate J Dilla and honor his career works. "Carrying on the musical legacy of J Dilla for the 9th year and counting is something HedRush and myself look forward to. Personally, it's my way of paying homage to a great creator as well as doing our part to continually add balance to urban music. Dilla's music accomplishes that on many levels," says Munch Joseph when asked the motivation behind the Tribute Concert ad Fundraiser.
