Wild Horses Monument

Vantage, WA

This is post #2 of this day spent here at the monument. I have a ton of shots from this day and am looking forward to really sorting through them and seeing what came of it. I'm currently still "on the road," right now, I'm at Ray's Drive In in Dayton, WA for some lunch and laptop time. But sadly, it's time to head back to Portland. My first trip out into the vast SE Washington has me overwhelmed and excited to come back and explore more.

I put this one up because the first one was a long star trail shot (made explore #2!! Thanks everyone!!!!!) and I have a few more star trails of this that I want to show, but thought it would be good to give one of the stars static. I LOVE the things going on with these horses!

The first guy with his chin high and trotting proud, the second obediently following behind, the third guy either impatient or excited to take on whatever's coming up, and then all the way left, there's a fourth calling out into the night. Such a fun pack of fellows.

As before, I want to give credit to the artist, David Govedare, he instilled so much life into this art piece. It's funny, while I was up there shooting in the middle of the night, I laid down to sleep for one of the 40 min star exposures. When I woke up, I groggily stood up, and as my eyes re-focused I jumped, startled, forgetting where I was and wondering about the dark forms jumping out at me!

So, I have more to post. I'll get to another tonight or tomorrow- thanks again for everyone stopping by on the previous bringing it to Explore- OH, and a shoutout to the people met on this trip:

Red and Auntie- you bad ass ladies, great exploring Palouse with you! Marty, much appreciated the view of Saturn through the telescope- seeing the rings blew me away. Bill, best of luck with your photo tour to Leslie Gulch, it was a pleasure meeting you :-)

Oh- and to Kathy here at Ray's Drive-In, thanks for the local info and great spice cake :-)

I'm all long winded here because I've been on the road by myself for a few days!

99 Cents Store finds. The doll is not a Lisa Frank item but she looks so much like her fairy, it's uncanny.

while i was digging up old photos today, i found this in my 'box of ancient stuff.' it's one of the surviving pages of my sticker collection book, circa 1993. i MIGHT have a packrat problem.

YUM! I loved Lisa Franks food themed stickers!

This one is a hit or miss for me. I reallyyyyy like the motion of it. The herd seems to be coming up over the hill and the Milky Way is in their tow.

Miss: the horse forms are somewhat lost. There's one solid silouhette, but the others are questionable what's going on. This sculpture set really only works looking straight on. Once you drift to the sides, the shapes lose their distinction.

I'm mesmerized by the Milky Way though. Recently, Gary Randall posted this here, and WOW, he incredibly captured the Milky Way and really nailed exposing for Mt Hood below it.

Tonight, skies are supposed to be clear, so I'm hoping to try and catch some heavy Milky Way action.

I'm proud of the progress I've made in almost one year of shooting night skies and I look forward to capturing more of the magic above us.

Actually took this last night, but I accidentally set it to private and couldn't make it public until today, when I figured out how to access the mobile version of the website on my iPhone via Safari. Grrr, Flickr, I go to bat for you so many times, and then you have to make an iPhone app update that's unfinished and glitchy. >_<

On a happier note, the background is from a Lisa Frank mini coloring book I found at Big Lots. :^D

I found these in my basement mixed in with a bunch of old school papers and things. I loved Lisa Frank stickers, especially the ice cream ones!

AS OF LATE.

In the grim, dystopian future there is only LIZA FRANK.

"multi-colorful trim, grommets, and quilted shoulders" you don't want to know how much I actually wanted stuff like this when I was a kid. ad in Barbie magazine, Winter 1987. wasn't "the now generation" in the 1960s? or 70s?

can't believe I haven't scanned much (any?) zany 1980s stuff yet...believe me, I have tons of it. there's a LOT of Barbie/dolls/ponies/girly stuff on the way, but lots more of all the other things I've been posting too...

This guy was really a challenge to capture. His pose is SO dynamic and powerful- so it seems obvious how to shoot it, but the positioning of the piece on the hill makes it difficult to get the angles that seem to work. It's been set perfectly to be seen from the highway down below, but up close, I was continually circling looking for the angle that showcases his power.

Looking at it now, I'm a bit disappointed I just shot subject in the center, but oh well, maybe next time out I'll find that ellusive POV :-)

She's finished! For a Lisa Frank tribute show at the Hive next month.

Today, April 12, 2016, is [https://www.flickr.com/photos/windycitydiva] birthday!! It's an extra special day. =0) <3

You know what was crazy making about this?

EVERYTHING.

From trying to get the cutout pictures to lay like I wanted without showing an extra ridge to even getting all the text to both fit & not bleed into the main picture while still readable in the 'original size' option. Meh. I was going to try and add a crease down the center so that it looked like this was scanned, as i is a 2 page featurette instead of what will be Reese's usual one page spread but screw it - I'll try that next time. Also, yes - the type of her hand writing is different but the usual one does have question mark or ampersand symbols so I had to change it.

In any case, the text for the article will be up in the morning sometime. I just want to REST and will add them to all the group and add all the damn tags I need to later because right now I am DONE. GOOD NIGHT.

Finally gonna upload a batch of some photos that I actually took last month!

Some vintage Lisa Frank stuff I had found in storage at my mom's so I dug them out & took pictures.

Who doesn't love Lisa Frank? When you're feeling glum, all you need are hearts, dolphins and a rainbow color palette.

Circa mid-1990s notebook cover. I used it last year to record Dog Lady mileage.
