An avocet feeds in shallow water reflecting sunset light
I remember, many years ago, taking a college class that included a section on birds in the San Francisco Bay Area. The birding gene didn't initially take for me — that came many years later — but I remember what must have been a very effective presentation on differences among shore birds. The birds found along the edges of bodies of water vary greatly in size and shape, from very small to quite large, and their leg and bill sizes vary, too. What I recall is the obvious point, that I hadn't thought of before, that each bird, with its long or short legs and its long or short bill, is adapted to a different niche in this environment, and even to differing depths of water.
The avocet is a striking bird in many ways. This one, like most that I've seen, was an almost solitary specimen. If another was nearby I did not see it. The bird has long legs, which it puts to use by wading in a few inches of water as it feeds. The long, curved beak allows it to reach down and pluck edibles out of the water. This one was feeding close to the shoreline and moving toward water that reflects the sunset sky, so I held still and waited for it to move into just the right position, where the colors of reflected sky were most strongly reflected in the water.

It's been too long since I've posted anything but hopefully it's worth the wait. This is a cargo ship which I've been working on for about 4 months now. I was trying to go for what a 1940-50s idea of what future space vehicles would look like. Regardless I am pleased with how it turned out, and look forward to some more builds coming down the pipeline soon.

a) Leica M8 + Leica Apo-Summicron M 90 mm f.2,0 ASPH. 6 bit + Filtro Leica UV/IR;
b) Tempo 1/15s con apertura diaframma a f.2,8 +2/3 di stop in manuale (a mano libera);
c) Lettura Esposimetrica di base con Gossen Lunalite (Effettuate tre letture a Luce Incidente, due sui lati estremi opposti della bimba e una fra il mento, il musetto del pupazzetto e la mano. Le letture sono state effettuate con la cupola dell’esposimetro rivolto perpendicolarmente all’asse ottico di ripresa). La lettura media ottenuta è stata confrontata con la lettura effettuata con l’esposimetro della M8 (la luminanza generale è stata posta sulla zona IV e 1/2 del Grigio Medio al 18%. L’accoppiata tempo/diaframma è stata sovraesposto di n+2/3 per evitare che l’esposizione finale impostata non penalizzasse le alte (visto che la luce che penetrava era abbastanza corposa “temperatura cromatica 6200°k”) o le basse luci (le luci interne erano troppo basse stimate in 3000°K/3100°K) nel calcolo della tecnica dell’Esposizione a Destra. Questa tecnica rappresenta un importante metodo di lavoro nella fotografia digitale, che permette al fotografo di ottenere foto meno rumorose e qualitativamente migliori;
d) Tecnica di ripresa esposimetrica con il sistema dell”Esposizione a Destra.
e) Prima Post-Produzione per la correzione del bilanciamento cromatico delle varie aree e zone di colore per compensare la caduta di luce (prime ore pomeridiane) con Nikon Capture NX 2
f) Seconda Post-Produzione con Adobe Photoshop CS3 per il bilanciamento delle zone d’ombra ;
g) Post-Produzione di completamento con Nikon Capture NX 2 e CorelPhoto-Paint X5.

A bald eagle flies through heavy vegetation
I was up in the Sacramento Valley last winter, visiting several wildlife refuges, when I had the opportunity to photograph several bald eagles. It was not uncommon to find them perched alone in the high branches of tall trees, from which they can presumable observe their surroundings and watch for prey. If I waited long enough, eventually the bird would take flight, giving me a few seconds to try to track the early while firing off a quick series of exposures.
This bird made it doubly tricky. Instead of heading for an open area, it looped back right in among the trees. It is perhaps even a bit difficult to find the eagle through that jumble of branches! I'll be honest — I'm also sharing their photograph as an example of how amazing modern autofocus systems can be, at least with a bit of practice. The challenges here are quite something — the eagle is flying at a good rate and somehow the camera and I had to keep focus on it despite all of the nearer and farther interference.

Here's a small build I finished. I felt some inspiration to make a star trek moc and this is what I ended up with. It could be a version of the enterprise, or just a ship from the universe. Anyways hope ya'll like it.
It's been too long since I've posted anything but hopefully it's worth the wait. This is a cargo ship which I've been working on for about 4 months now. I was trying to go for what a 1940-50s idea of what future space vehicles would look like. Regardless I am pleased with how it turned out, and look forward to some more builds coming down the pipeline soon.
