A lineman waits for a passing train before continuing walking his section of track looking for and fixing any problems he might find along the way.

With a voice as clear as crystal, Glen Campbell sang this song back in the 70's. Now in his 70's, he still sings.

When you are under the gun for an interesting idea, you feel a little pressure. The pliers seem a little "Jurassic" in appearance so here I am under "Jurassic Pressure".

Once upon a time, long, long ago, telephone poles, as we called them, had spikes on the sides, starting about eight feet up, so a lineman (there were probably no line women then) could place a short ladder against the pole, then climb the ladder to the spikes and climb the spikes to the upper reaches of the pole. Bucket trucks must have been rare in those ancient times. I was reminded of these spikes while reading about utility poles recently, and then, Lo! there they were on one lonely pole in our neighborhood. HTT!
Surfside Beach, known locally as Surfside is a city on Galveston Island in Brazoria County Texas. It is situated on Follet's Island by the Gulf of Mexico. Print Size 13x19 inches. HTT.
The West Coast continues under a long stretch of unusually cold and inclement weather. Gold Beach had yet another round of snow down to the beach, soon melted away by a nasty cold rain.
Saturday afternoon, lightning struck VERY close to the house. A simultaneous terrible BOOM sent me leaping 2 feet off my chair with a yelp while Tidda ran into the corner to hide. I had been editing a video on the computer and all power suddenly went out. It was a frightening moment!
Over the next several hours, a crew of power workers investigated and had to replace two transformers, all under terrible conditions of wind and pelting hail, and on a Saturday. I felt so thankful for them doing that hard and dangerous work out there.
Once electricity (and heat!) was restored, it turned out my modem had not survived, despite being plugged into a surge protector. Three long days I had to live without Internet connection (and it's embarrassing to admit how difficult that was!) before yet another intrepid worker finally arrived and spent hours climbing up around the house on a ladder in more hail and rain, fixing multiple issues.
This kind of work deserves a lot of respect - and often takes place in really difficult conditions!

Wechsel ins erstaunlich schneearme Gasteinertal. Bereits oft aufgesucht und umgesetzt wurde der Blick über Bad Hofgastein und das weite Tal am ehemaligen Bahnwärterhäuschen bei Anger. Am 13. Januar 2018 konnte ich an dieser nach wie vor schönen Fotostelle den TEC 41857 nach Triest ablichten.Die noch im gelb-silbernen Ursprungslack gehaltene 189 903 leistete hierbei Vorspanndienst bei der 193 771.
Later on I visited the region around Bad Hofgastein - almost without snow. Still stunning and one of my favorite places is this motive with the old lineman house near Anger. After waiting for a while Lokomotion`s 189 903 and 193 771 were climbing the grade towards Bad Gastein with freight train TEC 41857 to Trieste (January 13th 2018).

Watercolor, 9x12. This is a painting I did from a photo I took of the lineman working on our pole in our backyard to restore electricity after the tornado. We didn't have electricity for 5 days. Those poor guys were working practically round the clock, there were so many outages.

One of two images taken from album put together during wartime by an employee of Kaiserliche Post und Telegraphenverwaltung depicting men and equipment unique to the trade of a lineman, whose job it was to scale wooden telegraph poles to repair / replace the all-important wires.
