A pair of wood ducks cruising on the Wissahickon creek at Valley Green.

It's Monday. Enjoy the day~!

Yep, yet another wood duck shot! This colorful drake is striking a nice pose for the photographer ~

Enjoy the evening!

Enjoy the weekend!

#Spring

Wood duck week continues with the head-on shot of this hen. It is interesting how these birds look from this perspective, as the bulbous face is not obvious from side views or above. I was very fortunate to get a fair share of keeper shots from the Wissahickon last Saturday. After a brief hiatus tomorrow, wood duck week will continue on Thursday and conclude on Friday. Stay tuned...the best is yet to come!~ :D

Thanks for all the views, comments and favs. Much appreciated. Enjoy your day!

A female wood duck cruising on the Wissahickon creek at Valley Green. While not as colorful as their male counterparts, I find the hens to be quite beautiful with the iridescent plumage on their back feathers. View large (L) for the full experience.

It is the back half of the weekend. Enjoy the day!

The orange light and shallow depth of field makes it appear, at least to me, that the water around this hen wood duck is on fire. Hence the title fire sipper! I also like how the hen is sipping and looking dead-on at me, a potential threat. View large for best experience.

Thanks for putting up with all my wood duck shots. It was a rare experience for me to get these animals in so close.

Happy Easter!

At first I thought there was a malformity to the back of this mallard hen's head. Now, I understand that this bird is called a "tufted" mallard duck. Maybe a species variant, not really sure. What I do know is that she has one crazy hair-do! Almost like a 1950's style bee hive. She was very friendly, practically tame, and swam right up to me as I was laying on the bank photographing the farther away wood ducks. Thought that you all might enjoy this shot, and the hair!

We had torrential rains here in Philly on Sunday (7/2/09) and there were flash floods everywhere. This is the Wissahickon Creek, which was higher than I've ever seen it. Another foot or two and I wouldn't have been able to get to where I was standing. Good for photography, bad for travel.

You can see more detail and get a better feel for the power of the water by viewing large on black.

On the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, this artillery piece at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, DC, is silent. It is a reminder for all who enter these hollowed grounds that this is the birthplace of the Emancipation Proclamation. Please visit President Lincoln's Cottage at the Soldiers' Home the next time you are in the area.

This is something I came upon on my way to work today and it was a pretty insane site. It appeared the fire fighters had just arrived and hadn't started to actually fight the blaze.

I was a little disappointed with Lincoln Drive to be honest; there went many properties lining it, but a good number of garages, presumable for those living on Elgin and Caithness Drives.

This is one of my favorite bridges in the city. It was two subway tunnels built into it, for the never completed Broad Ridge Spur.
