Something bright and colourful for the shortest day of the year. Taken on a backstreet in Cambridge (when I had gotten lost...).

I found this flower overhanging into an overgrown back lane. I manged to pick a one, and later photographed this shot outside in my garden.

I have a texture, thank you Chris Buscaglia Lenz.

Have a good day and thank you for stopping.

An old standard, but always beautiful in my daughter's backyard garden.

Der Flieder blüht auch schon :-)

I think this will be the most beautiful MM topic ever!

Have a great week ahead and thank you for visiting,

HMM!

A lonely iris flower by the roadside.

this is my favourite variety of lilac, they are purple with a white edge, their Latin name (for Barbara ) is Syringa Vulgaris "Sensation".

I know it’s a very old fashioned flower, but I love lilac. Then again, I am somewhat of an old fashioned person, and certainly an old soul, so perhaps it suits me. I love lilacs for their delicate blooms, sweet scent and of course their delightful shades of purple. They are a true harbinger of spring.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 26th of May is "shades of purple", and I was immediately put in mind of the lovely lilacs I saw in some of the old fashioned cottage gardens that I sometimes see on my walks. Whilst it is autumn where I live now, I just happen to have a photograph of a beautiful lilac bearing several shades of purple in my photo archive, taken on a lovely spring stroll I took in October last year. Captured against a wonderfully clear azure sky, I thought it most suitable. I hope you like my choice for the theme and that it makes you smile!

Syringa is a genus of twelve currently recognized species of flowering woody plants in the olive family or Oleaceae called lilacs. These lilacs are native to woodland and scrub from south eastern Europe to eastern Asia, and widely and commonly cultivated in temperate areas elsewhere.

Happy new week all.

"The smell od moist earth & lilacs hung in the air like wisps of the past & hints of the future.

Margaret Milla

I am loving the pictures people are posting of lilacs. My neighbor has them in her yard and they hang over into our yard. They are sweet and the aroma is amazing. The best part of a warm night is having the windows open and drifting off to sleep being able to smell these beauties! Happy weekend all!

This is a small lilac bush I planted a few years ago and probably not planted in the best spot it could be. It is taking a long time to grow big. It's a tiny one but yet it still manages to survive the harsh winter months buried in snow and show it's beauty in the spring.

I haven't had much time to take new photos lately. Fall is here now, which is my favourite time of year so I hope to get out with my camera :) I hope everyone is doing well!

Thanks so much for your visit! Have a great weekend! :)

Newly planted lilac bushes putting out their first flowers

♫♪♫

I lost myself on a cool damp night

I gave myself in that misty light

Was hypnotized by a strange delight

Under a lilac tree

I made wine from the lilac tree

Put my heart in it's recipe

It makes me see what I want to see

And be who I want to be

When I think more than I ought to think

And do things I never should do

I drink much more that I ought to drink

Because it brings me back you

Lilac wine is sweet and heady

Like my love

Lilac wine, I feel unsteady

Like my love

Listen me, I cannot see clearly

Isn't that she, coming near here

Lilac wine is sweet and heady

Where's my love

Lilac wine, I feel unready

Where's my love

Listen me, why is everything so hazy

Isn't that she, or am I just going crazy, dear

Lilac wine is sweet and heady

Where's my love

I, I feel unready for my love

Listen to your heart

above all other voices. ~ Marta Kagan
