Just a few blocks away the streets were filled with the crowds and chaos of Pittsburgh's Light Up Night. Here, under the convention center, I was surprised to find water lit with bright pink lights, and solitude.
SOOC image (except for cropping).
Despite the cold temperatures last night the skies were crisp and clear creating a great atmosphere for Light Up Night photos.

Tonight was the 55th Annual Light Up Night in downtown Pittsburgh. Light Up Night kicks off the holiday season in the city and is celebrated on the Friday before Thanksgiving every year. There are events all throughout downtown including lighting of several Christmas trees as well as two firework displays.

Pittsburgh caps off Light Up Night with a firework finale on the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
We love our fireworks displays in Pittsburgh and this year was especially nice with warm weather and beautiful reflections on the three rivers.
the fireworks just ended...
the smoke still lingers...
almost makes it look like Gotham City.
but no...it's Pittsburgh :)
18 November 2016: Panoramic view of Light Up Night in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Taken from the West End Bridge this panoramic view was created from six vertical images stitched together in Lightroom. The reflections along the water were simply stunning and I love this view of my hometown.

Ok, I confess, I added the fountain from another photograph. The city isn't the same without it. Panoramic created from 22 photos (23 with the fountain).

Sprout Public Art improves the image of the region and enhances the visual landscape of neighborhoods in Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities of Allegheny County by creating high quality public art. The program encourages dialogue on public art between the community and the artist, contributes to community and neighborhood development and raises awareness about the important role that local artists can have in shaping communities. Sprout Public Art addresses three key issues: disconnect between visual culture and day-to-day life, level of leadership and personal investment in the region's neighborhoods and need to support the ideas and creativity of people living in the Pittsburgh region.

lightup night in pittsburgh.
this was in between the ppg buildings....a beautiful tree in the middle of an iceskating rink.
that is meg in the foreground shooting a similar shot...and aunt debbie above her in the silver jacket w/her arms out (doing what....i haven't a clue)..haha.
I just love the stuff going on in this shot...
the cutie little couple kissing...
the three friends posing....
it was just such a fun little spot full of life and beauty.
i backed myself into a tight corner for stability and shot this at slow speed to catch some movement and avoid noise.
Shooting from the roof of the Wyndham Grand Hotel, I left the shutter open for 10 seconds to capture the light streams as traffic entered the city...

We went to Light Up Night in Pittsburgh this past Friday and I shot this right before they reopened the Roberto Clemente Bridge.
hi everyone!!! i'm putting up a quick post before running out the door.
this is a happy birthday shot for my aunt debbie :)
this was taken on my most recent trip to the burgh. the sky is smokey because the fireworks had just ended. it was light up night in the city...which means that fireworks light up the skies signaling the city to turn on all of it's christmas lights...which kicks off the holiday season.
it's a fun night :)
i sure hope you're all well and i really do miss you all so much.
i'm still trying to find my groove with working full time and getting use to all of these life changes. i barely have time to look at my camera which really sucks but i'm still hoping that will all change soon!
take care guys!!!!!
Taken on Light Up Night 2010. I really like the way the first couple bolts are in sharp focus with the city in bokeh on this one.
5 shot HDR Processed in DynamicPhoto and adjusted in CS3.
hi all :))
i'm back from the burgh.
unfortunately this is the only shot i have to share w/you of the fireworks.
man, what a crap shoot this was! it was about 50 below zero up there on mount washington and the wind was whipping making it even colder. i couldn't have gloves on because i couldn't work the controls of the camera. i was out there 20 minutes before this started and was frozen w/in 5. so when the fireworks started i was already shaking like a leaf and frozen solid and my finger barely worked at all.
i could only manage to squeeze about 10 shots of the fireworks and because of the conditions...this was the best one. and it's barely acceptable. the city actually came out pretty darn clear and i was happy w/that, but that took away from teh fireworks ....which were barely there in this one. ugh.
oh well, it's still pretty to look at but i was soo sad because as we drove away they got really big and pretty. and i was dangerously close to tears as my fingers were throbbing like someone hit each and every one of them w/a hammer.
on a side note:
the title of this shot came from the funniest misunderstanding between meg and i.
we were in the car w/debbie on the way to dinner this night and i asked debbie if we were going to the strip the next morning and she said that she didn't think we'd have time to pull that off ...as she was cooking an insanely huge early thanksgiving dinner that day.
so i said "ok...so can we just go somewhere special".
now.....for those that know me well.....i may think sweet thoughts but i do not voice them. that sentence up there would never come out of my mouth. i'm not outwardly sappy or sweet. meg, on the other hand, is the sweetest, most sappy, cuddly, warm caring person on earth and really always just wishes that i was the same way.
ok...that being said....
there is a store around the corner from my aunts house called "somewhere special" that carries really super fun girl stuff (purses, jewlery....etc....".
so, that is what i meant.
as soon as that came out of my mouth meg smiles bigger than i've ever seen and says "OH JENNIFER....THAT WAS THE CUTEST THING I'VE EVER HEARD YOU SAY"!!!!!
and debbie and i just started cracking up. poor meg....she holds such hope for me :))))
this past Friday night was Light Up Night in Pittsburgh. When they reveal all of the store windows for Christmas and turn on all of the Holiday lights. Fireworks follow.
That building you see to the right is where we had dinner...it overlooks the city. We did this just incase the weather wasn't so great...so we wouldn't miss out.
But it was beautiful. So I ran outside when the fireworks started to catch them from here.
This photo was taken from atop Mount Washington, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on Light Up Night, 2007.
