Celebrating First Nations' spirituality and culture through the songlines of our land and sky, this year’s Lighting the Sails is about painting and celebrating country through a pattern of sharing systems, interconnected history lines and trade routes.
Lighting the Sails Director and Head of Indigenous Programming at Sydney Opera House Rhoda Roberts has selected six artists of different clans, national estates and territories for an immersive projected artwork that weaves through time and distance.
As the first indigenous work commissioned exclusively for the sails of the Sydney Opera House, this visual tapestry will weave through personal journeys, while celebrating the timeless themes and enduring art of Australia's most influential contemporary First Nations artists, exclusive to Vivid Sydney.

Vivid Sydney 2015 (Photograph by Kaye Menner)
In June 2015, I went into the City of Sydney to view firsthand the spectacular VIVID SYDNEY, a festival of light, music and ideas. This image is one of my long exposure photographs of the bright and colorful projections of light and patterns onto the Museum of Contemporary Arts building. These colorful projections were continuously changing making this building a real piece of vivid art.
The Museum of Contemporary Arts (abbreviated MCA) in Sydney, Australia is an Australian museum solely dedicated to exhibiting, interpreting and collecting contemporary art, both from across Australia and around the world. It is housed in the Art Deco-style former Maritime Services Board Building on the western edge of Circular Quay. This area was the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
The museum was opened in 1991 and from 2010 underwent a $58 million expansion and re-development, fully reopening as the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia on 29 March 2012.

The Sydney Opera House is on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It sits at the north-eastern tip of the Sydney central business district (the CBD), surrounded on three sides by the harbour (Sydney Cove and Farm Cove) and inland by the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Made of This explores the subtle interaction between audience, light, colour, space and emotion.
The delicate pastel-toned lights of the artwork are presented as a series of six abstract paintings — but this is not a static work. It envelopes the viewer in light and communicates through the shifting language of colour.
The soft, gentle tones of candy-tinted hues are mesmerising and undulate slowly and rhythmically in the night, evoking memories of happiness and nostalgia.

Lighting of the Sails: Austral Flora Ballet
Artist: BEMO (United States)
Artist: Andrew Thomas Huang (United States) with BEMO (United States)
This year, Los Angeles-based Andrew Thomas Huang is the torch-bearer entrusted with the Lighting of the Sails.
Huang’s Austral Flora Ballet is a hypnotic fusion of contemporary dance and motion-capture technology that brings our botanic wonders to life as never seen before. Together with choreographer Toogie Barcelo and the animation design team at Bemo in Los Angeles, Huang crafts a lush spectacle from such beloved floral gems as the New South Wales waratah, kangaroo paws and red beard orchids, all of which have enormous connection for First Nations peoples to their country, story and dance.
There was a beautiful light projection on the south face of the Empire State Building on August 1, 2015. The display, called Projecting Change by Travis Threlkel and Louie Psihoyos, brought attention to the plight of endangered species. The lights on top of the Empire State Building also kept changing colors in concert with the light projection.

The Finale.
And effectively the last photo i'll post from Florida, for a while at least. I think.
My Mom got sick and had to go back to the resort before the show. She asked me if I thought the girls had fun on their first trip to Disney World. I told her as a general rule of thumb, if a person pulls out their camera to take a picture, they're probably having fun. Then I had both of my cousins show her the fireworks show they had both recorded on their phones.
Fireworks look better in front of the castle. I was missing out back at Big Thunder.

Flinders Station party style! White Night 2014
The main station building, completed in 1909, is a cultural icon of Melbourne, with its prominent dome, arched entrance, tower and clocks one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. It is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
In 1899, a design competition was held with 17 entires. The £500 first prize went to railway employees James Fawcett and HPC Ashworth of Fawcett and Ashworth in 1899, whose design named Green Light was of French Renaissance style, and included a large dome and tall clock tower.
The Melburnian idiom "I'll meet you under the clocks" refers to the row of clocks above the main entrance, which indicate the time-tabled time of departure for trains on each line.
