In this photo I captured Light Pollution from Anchorage sandwiched in between the milky way and the glow of the northern lights to the right.
Human silhouette in front of the vast majority our Milky Way Galaxy. Truly breath taking to even contemplate that we are nothing compared to the cosmos. Every human experience means almost nothing and lasts for almost no time relative to the age and magnitude of the universe. So sit back and enjoy one of the most spectacular shows it has to offer
Knypersley Pool, 2 hour exposure this time. There was absolutely no wind so I half wish I'd pointed the camera down more to see more of the reflections! The colour is from the light pollution, I've only increased the saturation and cloned lights out.
Trying to get the entire Arch of the Milky Way and fighting against light pollution from Madrid.

In meiner Gegend gibt es eine Menge Lichtverschmutzung. Trotzdem ist es mir gelungen eine Sternschnuppe zu fotografieren...- In my surroundings there is a lot of light pollution. But I succeded in taking a picture of a shooting star
A second shot from my first ever night shoot, back in December 2004. The light pollution is from the city of Sheffield in the distance.

A starry night at an old decaying barn. This is a two image composite light painted with my led headlamp and blended in photoshop.
The Milky Way Still Rises Above DC (long and stacked). 🌌 See the glow emanating on the lower-left horizon line? That's the DC metropolitan area.
I shot this from Shenandoah National Park by Front Royal with a light pollution filter (and still got the glow).
One Tree Hill in South Gippsland, near the town of Toora in Victoria, Australia, is named after this Cypress tree. This view is looking to the north east and this Cypress tree stands out against the background glow of the lights of the town of Yarram.
Whilst the clouds rolled in very quickly and obscured some of the starry sky, they have however added another element to this photo as has the foreground interest revealed by the light of the torch held by my lighting assistant (yours truly)
“There wouldn’t be a sky full of stars if we were all meant to wish on the same one” - Frances Elliott Clark
"Do you ever watch the sunset
And just sit and think about things
Just you and the sky and darkness
Giving your thoughts some wings
Sunset beauty makes you feel as though
Your life has meaning after all
To see a sight so extraordinary
Makes you feel capable, strong and tall
The serenity gives you a chance
To put things in perspective
Life can be overwhelming at times
And a sunset can be reflective
So when the sky lights up next time
Let your gaze do some drinking
Soak up all the amazing sights
And do some sunset thinking!
Sunset Thinking"

A capture I took just as darkness fell across towards the mountains with the lights from the town beyond the trees polluting the sky (but helping me with some extra drama and light).
I found some shelter from the wind and waited for the clouds to clear. This was as clear as it got and it was right before sunrise, which is why the sky is so blue. This was a very difficult edit with the light extremes, but I had fun with it.
This is what you get when you mix a sunrise with light pollution! Taken from the Ilha de Faro looking across the sea to the town.
Taken over the course of 2 hours, freezing in a field surrounded by sheep wondering what I was doing in their field!
In my other star trails photos I've tried to avoid light pollution, but I decided with this one I'd try and use it!
We are having so much fun, Mark and I.
Having the same hobby is quite awesome!
We used some hours in our backyard this evening and enjoyed nightshooting with and without lightpainting.
Woke up at 4, biked 5 km in cold, just to find clouds and no supermoon. Enjoyed morning freeze for 2 hours hopping, just maybe, no chance.
I used some light painting and a two exposure composite to get this shot....the air glow seemed especially good that night.

You are not looking at the colours of a sunrise or sunset, but this is light emitting from the vast Westland greenhouse area a few miles back.
Westland is well known for its intensive horticulture. The glasshouses in this region cover an area of 2,750 hectares (10.6 sq mi), making it one of the world's largest contiguous greenhouse areas.

For me, this image is just Classic Joshua Tree National Park. It's got those jumbo rocks, the namesake Joshua Trees and a reasonably dark sky for topping. In fact, you can see spring blooms on the tree in the center of the composition. Joshua Tree National Park embodies two distinct desert ecosystems: the higher elevation Mojave, and the lower Colorado. It has achieved International Dark Sky Park status, although its darkness is affected by the huge light-dome pollution of the distant Coachella Valley. On the Bortle Scale darkness ranking, it's only at a 4 out of ten (1 being the darkest), but that's still enough to make out the Milky Way on a clear night. Just one little LED panel here to help light my foreground a bit.
When I go looking for dark skies to provide some nightime entertainment, I usually end up in the desert. However, I have been somewhat obsessed with finding some nice body of water for some starry reflections. Just so you can appreciate, not only does the sky need to be relatively clear and pretty moonless and dark, but now I need water AND I do not need wind. Checklist complete.
Stellar waves dude. ;-)
This image features the Milky Way competing with the light pollution of San Francisco for visual dominance. The location is Bodega Bay, CA.
This will be the one of the last images that I post from Twenty mile river for a while. Off center to the right is the constellation "Big Dipper" This constellation is the state flag of Alaska. Stars of gold on a field of blue.
First Milky Way shot of 2023 and totally out of practice. Not well planned out but it is a start. About froze my fingers off.

Pretty special summer night under the stars here - quiet, peaceful, alone with my camera and my thoughts (or lack thereof). Spiritual renewal I call it, and I'm feeling it's time...

High winds and some clouds rolling through were an issue but there were still 31 Geminid meteors that graced my camera sensor this night.
