From my early days of photography I have been hearing that over cast sky is best to shoot as there is no harsh light and shadows but somehow I find difficult to shoot in such a condition as the area under the eyes is too dark when there is no dircect light on face or key light. Other factor which is missing in such situation is the catch light in the eyes. Its difficult to get that too. In this particular shot (over cast sky) light has been reflected from a thermocol reflector and the some natural reflection from floor. Thermocol is also creating catch light which is hardly visible here as her eyes are very small :D

Shot without any reflector is added at 3rd comment

Lighting setup for Montague Furniture

This photo I am showing you here was taken with my 50mm Lens on my Nikon D2x, ISO 100, 1/25 shutter and 3.2 aperature. I was on the second floor of a big building with a wide open window behind the bride. We had almost but not quite direct sun streaming in onto her from behind and to my right. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon so the sun was way high in the sky. You can see the tree tops in the back ground out of focus because I was shooting at 3/2 Aperature and they were about 100 yards away. I had one of the brides maids hold a reflector low and bounce light right back onto the Brides body and face. so the reflector was bouncing exactly opposite of the sun light. (Thank Megan!!!) Here is a behind the scenes photo of me taking the photo (thanks Danielle!!) and the final version of it. I worked it in lightroom 3.2 beta and made it B/W with just a hint of brown/yellow added to the dark areas for warmth.

.. plasma (lcd) monitors and tvs work good for back drops and lighting as per you could easily put an image of what colors you want for lighting,on to the screen.

The larger the monitor the better, as per you can adjust your foreground lighting by moving lights closer or further from the front of your subject .... and you can have your subject move further away from the plasma or lcd (screens with anti glare coat work better in my opinion)

With the right lighting, you can create different surroundings; stimulating, soothing, warm.

Start with your lighting.

One smart change can level up your entire scene.

It’s not the camera. It’s how you light the shot.
