Pradillo Dam,

Rascafría is one of the most amazing municipalities in the Community of Madrid. In addition to being one of the oldest in the province, its natural enclave gives it a multitude of natural and man-made corners that have valued its situation for centuries.

Taking the road to the Port of Los Cotos from the Monastery of El Paular, a short time later you reach an area called La Isla, where there are several restaurants. In the second indication, you enter the Pinosaguas Restaurant arriving at a large esplanade that serves as a parking lot, and from where a path along the Lozoya River, upstream.

After a short walk you reach the old dam of Pradillo, a waterfall that served for the old light factory, which disappeared years ago, and has been unused since then, but creates a small waterfall quite attractive at any time of the year.

Going up to the dam, along a small path, the noisy spectacle of the waterfall changes to a placid reservoir surrounded by pine trees that are reflected in those of calm waters. Continuing along the shore, water, forest and small meadows make this place an idyllic corner to have a good time.

When winter comes, snow and frozen water change the landscape for a more spectacular one, if possible.

Rascafría es uno de los municipios más sorprendentes de la Comunidad de Madrid. Además de ser de los mayores de la provincia, su enclave natural le otorga multitud de rincones naturales y creados por el hombre que desde hace siglos ha valorado su situación.

Tomando desde el Monasterio de El Paular la carretera hacia el Puerto de Los Cotos, poco después se llega a una zona llamada La Isla, donde hay varios restaurantes. En la segunda indicación, se entra al Restaurante Pinosaguas llegando a una gran explanada que sirve de aparcamiento, y de donde parte un camino junto al río Lozoya, aguas arriba.

Tras un corto paseo se llega a la antigua presa del Pradillo, un salto de agua que sirvió para la antigua fábrica de la luz, y que hace años desapareció, y está sin uso desde entonces, pero crea una pequeña cascada bastante atractiva en cualquier época del año.

Subiendo a la presa, por un pequeño sendero, el ruidoso espectáculo de la cascada cambia por un plácido embalse rodeado de pinos que se reflejan en las de aguas calmadas. Continuando por la orilla, agua, bosque y pequeñas praderas hacen de este lugar un rincón idílico para pasar un buen rato.

Cuando llega el invierno, la nieve y el agua congelada cambian el paisaje por otro más espectacular, si cabe.

Charlotte, NC, street photography

The Light Factory, a contemporary museum of photography and film, here in Charlotte, NC, sponsored a photo contest. The theme was to take pictures at the NASCAR Hall of Fame over a 24 hour period - "a day in the life" type setting. I went after sunset. On the positive side, I feel my enthusiasm for photography growing again, on the negative side, I am out of practice and the building challenged me.

It was nice to see a lot of photographers out, so I think there will be some good results.
