Another one from Berlin's government district. These somewhat hidden stairs lead up to a small footbridge across the Spree which connects the Paul-Löbe-Haus (PLH) and the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus (MEHL), both are governmental buildings. I've linked a photo in the first comment where you can see the bridge and the huge bull's eye window of the MELH. In the left corner of the MELH, where you can see the folded-up barriers (on the left of the dancers' group – please press "Z") is the entrance to the stairs leading up to the bridge. That's the spot I've taken this photo from. The bridge itself has two floors; the upper floor provides direct access to both the MEHLH and the PLH and therefore isn't open to the public (unfortunately).

Happy (Monochrome) Thursday, dear Flickr friends!
The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.

Yesterday, I went downtown to shoot architecture and street shots, and had a really great day. This is inside the Vancouver Public Library. It was designed by Moshe Safdie and was built to resemble the Colosseum in Rome. It is one of most photographed buildings in Vancouver and has so many wonderful nooks and crannies. If you are interested in reading more about the building, here is a link: www.greenroofs.com/projects/vancouver-public-library-libr...
I will be posting more shots from yesterday intersperced with my "usual."
Zoom in and take a look around :)
Porto Cruise Terminal. This photograph was taken during a recent visit. I was dazzled by this skylight and the light and shadow play.

beneath towering concrete frames, two pigeons pause in quiet connection, their small world held within the sharp lines and fading light of the city’s architecture.
from the dark tunnel of the station, a lone figure climbs toward the shimmering lattice above, each step pulling him further from shadow into the fractured glow of the city’s spine.
This corridor was lit by these beautiful lamps including this which cast amazing patterns of light and shadow. This was in the Hotel Dar Bergui, a lovely boutique hotel on the outskirts of Ouarzazate, Morocco. Ouarzazate is a desert city in south central Morocco across the High Atlas Mountains from Marrakesh. It's known for CLA Studios where many famous films with desert scenes and Arabic architecture have been made and also the Cinema Museum.

the city glows, but not loudly. garlands hang heavy with light and ornament, while people pass â some slow, some blurred, some just present. in this corridor, time stretches. the lights above donât flicker â they breathe.
I like this portrait, because it reminds of a quiet afternoon on my studio. This was taken after a portrait session. Cristina is a visual artist and sometimes we have to make portraits to create content to exhibition catalogues or to her site or other social media. On that day, there were some bird feathers on the table, and while we were talking she started putting those feathers on her hair. The light entered through the blinds and created this stripped effect. I loved what I was seeing and with the camera still in my hands, I just clicked. This seemed perfect to me for a black and white portrait.
Eran las preferidas de mi madre y las mías. Dulces como la miel. Las más feas, las más pequeñas, las más sabrosas...
a burst of laughter cuts through the rhythm of falling water, as a girl runs barefoot past the shimmering curtain, her motion frozen in the split second between shadow and light.
We have had some hot, strong, sunlight this week so I attempted the Macro Mondays challenge - this shows part of a cylindrical tea strainer, about an inch of it, so I reckon the area covered here in width is OK for the MM rules. If it isn't, I have something else in reserve.
morning light spills onto munich's center, painting paths with a golden brush. amidst this interplay of light and shadow, a cyclist becomes the artist, his two-wheeled steed casting a long, dark echo on the concrete canvas. pedaling through the cool air, his form is hunched in concentration, a solitary figure on the urban stage where the sun directs a daily performance. every turn of the wheel is a silent note in the city's waking symphony, a fleeting connection between the still-slumbering world and the break of day.
What’s up everyone?!?! Hope you guys are doing well out there! Whew! Fall colors are in full swing right now! It’s looking really nice out there, and shaping up to be a great season for fall colors all over! Hope you guys are out there getting some of that action!
It’s been a very productive start to the fall for myself. I’m still sorting through a bunch of images and preparing for a few more upcoming trips, but until then, I’ll share this image from Iceland that I made this past summer.
I’ll be the first to tell you, I don’t shoot waterfalls very often. I suck at photographing them to be honest. But on this particular night, I found myself capturing one of the best displays of light that I’ve seen. Seljalandsfoss is a popular location in Iceland that everyone goes to, and rightfully so. Typically I try avoiding areas like this, but to my surprise, there were only 2 other people here on this amazing evening. Just as midnight rolled around, good ol Mother Nature put on a show. The sun dipped below the clouds, and the light show began! The light was incredible! Watching this waterfall come to life from the sun was truly special. I guess I do get lucky sometimes 😝😬😑
Oh my love for sand dunes. A subject that I’ve been photographing for some years now. My first visit to these dunes back in 2008 was overwhelming. The mesmerizing curves, the pristine untouched sand, and the hypnotic light and shadow play was something I had never seen before. The beauty was infinite, and ever since that spring day back in 2008, I made the visit to this area, every year since. For this particular scene, it took a few visits to get the right conditions. There was endless amounts of footprints 👣. But after a few months of waiting, the wind finally wipe the dunes free of footprints. So pristine, so clean, the endless curves and sharp spines of the dunes were back....only temporarily. I was just happy to see the this landscape as it was when I first visited the area 11 years ago.
barefoot and laughing, she races beside the glittering wall of water, each droplet catching the sunlight as the city fades behind a veil of summer spray.
Play of light and shadow. The choice of black and white enhances the dramatic and timeless quality, drawing attention to form, light, and texture without the distraction of color.
Jeu de lumière et d’ombre. Le choix du noir et blanc renforce le côté dramatique et intemporel et pousse à se concentrer sur les formes, la lumière et la texture, sans distraction des couleurs.

as the sun dips below the horizon at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, its rays pierce through the intricate web of modernist architecture, casting long, fluid shadows on the cobblestone. two silhouettes, intertwined by movement and purpose, navigate this vast canvas of light and dark. in the fleeting warmth of the day’s end, their figures stretch toward the future, a dance of contrasts, of the tangible and the ephemeral, of the city's pulse and the quietude of twilight.

Actually, they are not falling down, may be flipping down. Clear case of teamwork, my important other holds one corner of the book up, and let the bend up pages falling down. Due to the short distance and the flash lighting, approx. 12 strokes / sec the single pages are still mostly sharp.
Look carefully, the paper color changes from the outside to the inside, age and dust. But also from top down, as light passes trough the pages and change color and intensity.
Some pages flip down more or like single, other one a couple of them together
And to add to the age impressions, rather soft rendering, low values for clarity and dehaze..
the last light of the day spills through the narrow streets of palma´s old town, touching everything with liquid gold. the air hums with laughter, glasses clink in fleeting toasts, and cigarette smoke curls into the cool evening. here, in front of bodega morei, the world slows down just enough to catch a glimpse of something timeless.
