For three weeks we stayed at a summer house and Boxi came with us.

Now we are at a mountain resort and we thought it would be better to let Boxi at home, with my parents..

I miss him and I'm sure he misses us...I think I should consider a change of listyle and stay put in one place for a while.

A marketing board at the Greenwich Square development on the site of the old Greenwich District Hospital.

It proclaims it is "The lifestyle quarter.." But doesn't everyone have a lifestyle of some sort. Another Claim is "...an exciting new residential address." I cant see anything particularly exciting about living in East Greenwich.

In other words you have a friend or guest you must entertain for a bit and make comfortable in a new, foreign place. You will have to be their host and guide to getting around, at least give them a good idea where to go, what numbers to call, how to generally not get robbed from, where is it good to eat, etc.

Even if you are not very rude you could be a bit shy, gawky or awkward in helping people out this way. Hosting is not for everyone and takes time and practice to develop. As long as you keep calm and be mindful of order and your guest’s needs you will do fine. Here are the most important things to do for them:

1

First off treat yourself well by cleaning up well and organizing. Do tidy up please. Time to do full on spring cleaning again, or at least a good sweep, a light mop, a scrubbed kitchen, wiped surfaces and general organization. It would really help if your junk or rarely used things are neatly piled and hidden away. Maybe have a garage sale or giveaway to free up more space, but no pressure. Your personal items should be well hidden and major bits of dirt and grime are unacceptable. Make sure the floor is smooth to walk on and not dusty or sticky. Deodorize after cleaning for an extra fresh touch and to kill or hide what is left of bacterial odor.

2

Make water, food, a pair of slippers and a spot in the bathroom for personal items accessible for them. Put yourself in their shoes and imagine what you would need and what set up would make you comfortable. Water should be more than enough for the guests and the hosts. Keep a full pitcher of water refrigerated and always refill it. Most people prefer chilled water, or have ice.

3

If you will not eat out with them all the time then create a simple food plan. Buy basic groceries you like and what they possibly like. Do ask them what they like to eat and what allergies of any. Cook simple recipes or recipes you are confident in using their favored ingredients and what else, if you want to make them try something new.

4

Give them a plastic tupperware or bag in the bathroom for personal toiletries if they do not have one. Ask them if they need any more personal items or food items and you can get them yourself if they are tired or go together at first.

5

Know each other’s waking, work and hangout schedule. Especially if they are working and using your place as a crash pad you will expect alarms. Knowing the schedule is important to be in sync and fully enjoy the experience.

6

Give them the Wi-Fi password or direct them to nearby places with Wi-Fi.

7

Exchange numbers and make sure you have text and call credits. Crucial.

8

Leave important numbers by the phone for them for example building front desk or a village guard house, delivery restaurants they may like, nearby clinics, what their work requires, airport terminals, other room reservations if they are still looking, etc.

9

Show them around and carefully explain or show a map online which is better. They want a sense of independence, host them but do not baby them.

10

Explain your house rules clearly, brief and with a friendly smile.

11

Provide a clean bedding area with fresh pillows, 2 is good, a thin blanket and a thicker one or two thin ones depending on the weather and how they like it.

12

Give out snacks and drinks, be casual and creative.Cheese and crackers with long, sauteed tomatoes and cheap but good wine or fresh fruit juice. Make a pot roast, a pasta dish, something you can do and your guest would eat.

13

Provide a pair of slippers.

14

Provide a fresh towel or help them buy one at a nearby grocery.

15

Make enough room for their things.
