Shay is Chairman of the Irish Life Staff Charities, a fully constituted organisation set up by a group of Irish Life employees led by Shay in 1995.

During the past 13 years, Shay has dedicated a huge amount of time to developing and expanding the Irish Life Staff Charities.

Long before Corporate Responsibility (CR) appeared on the agendas of companies in Ireland and before the widespread development of corporate community programmes, Shay was leading the way in giving something back to the community.

Shay has been the prime mover in the success of the organisation. A striking feature is the wide range of inventive activities used to raise funds. This has not only helped to spark the interest of staff but has also contributed to the level of funds raised.

Shay has come up with many innovative ideas for fundraising from an abseil down the 9-storey Irish Life HQ in Dublin to a hay-cutting event using original scythes titled “Cutting it for the kids”. He has also been happy to share these ideas with charities and other companies looking for ways of raising funds.

Since its inception, under Shay’s direction, Irish Life Staff Charities have raised a total of €450,000 before matching by the company. A total of 17 charities have benefited over the years from funds raised. Not only that, Shay has helped to instil a spirit of volunteering and a sense of community responsibility in the many Irish Life employees that he has encountered since 1995.

In a real sense, by his own example he helped to pave the way for the development of a wider community programme in Irish Life.

Biodiversity is the variety of life on earth, if we lose one, we risk losing the other. This is my support poster for 2010 International Year of Biodiversity.

From the hot arid deserts of the Sahara, through the lush green rainforests of the

Amazon, to the ocean depths and bright corals, our natural world is a marvel of different

landscapes, materials, colours and textures. The land, air and seas of our planet are home to the tiniest insects and the largest animals, which make up a rich tapestry of interconnecting and interdependent forces. This is life, this is biodiversity.

Biodiversity found on Earth today consists of many millions of distinct biological species, the product of four billion years of evolution.

What’s happening?

Fast isn’t always good. Species are becoming extinct at the fastest rate known in

geological history, and most of these extinctions are tied to human activity.

Some conservation organizations estimate species are heading towards extinction at a

rate of about one every 20 minutes2.

One figure frequently cited is that the rapid loss of species we are seeing today is

estimated to be between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate.

Experts calculate that between 0.01 and 0.1 per cent of all species will continue to

become extinct each year, if we carry on with business as usual.

That may not sound like very much, but consider that if there are 100 million species on

Earth as some estimates suggest, then between 10,000 and 100,000 species are becoming

extinct each year.

Looking at recent assessments we know that more than one third of species assessed

in a 2009 major international biodiversity study, are threatened with extinction.

Of the 47,677 species in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)

Red List of Threatened Species of 2009, 17,291 are deemed to be at serious risk3.

The list reveals that 21 per cent of all known mammals, 30 per cent of all known

amphibians, 12 per cent of all known birds, 28 per cent of reptiles, 37 per cent of freshwater

fishes, 70 per cent of plants and 35 per cent of invertebrates assessed so far, are under threat.

I dont remember the original photo i used; nor the name of her lol.

(And no this isn't "PORN"; it's kinda what you'd call alternative art for an alternative story.)

Tasogare Sekai is a fiction i'm developing with very oddball; altenative storylines

Think of it as Gintama on Valium LOL

This piece of "ART" is i beleive what i was devising as a "COVER" per se for if i ever finish one and make it into a book.

I think...

This is Reiko (shares my nickname etc but me = human her = not lol.) and she's from the Arashi 'clan' on Tasogare.

Let's just say the random joke is they're "ALIEMZ" (>_> the charachters came up with that silly term not me! LOL) XD

But ... tasogare people are humanoid in nature i guess, but can have anthromorphic qualities and superhuman abiltiies. >_> beyond that?

They screw like rabbits, and someone calls them feesh lol.

('Course when you're trying to keep your population alive, and you're not trained to have 'sex' like humans, of COURSE you're going to be viewed as screwing like rabbits!)

One Tonne Life is a project in which A-hus, Vattenfall and the Volvo Car Corporation joined forces with industry partners ICA and Siemens to create a climate-smart household.

Over a period of six months in 2011, the Lindell test family lived a climate-smart lifestyle with the aim of reducing their carbon dioxide emissions from 7.3 tonnes per year, which is roughly the average in Sweden, to a minimalistic one tonne. After an impressive final sprint, the Lindells crossed the finishing line at 1.5 tonnes.

This piece belongs to the Harmony of Life collection, which renders artistically the HARMONY between Man and Nature in new shapes and finishing. It demonstrates environmental concerns while at once underscoring their role in the origin of LIFE. The Flow of Life represents motherhood as the basic link in the chain of life. This mother is rocked by the sea waves, proudly admiring her little child on her lap. Their gazes express a unique and special bond with no need for further explanations in words. Limited edition with 500 units.
