On the edge. Sprouting from stone. Crafting roots in the shadows. Reaching branches into the light. With all intent and tenacity to survive.

Life you had, is the life we have

The time you were, is the time we are

Simplicity of life which we are enjoying, is what you lost.

Why is it we're so fascinated by fire? And why does it have to start so young? We had another bonfire tonight, trying to get the garden back under control, and I took the opportunity to talk to my seven-year-old about fire, about respect for it and how dangerous it can be if not controlled. He's a good boy and he listened, and was lecturing Mrs Mac about it over dinner, so I have some hope.

No boys were harmed during the making of this photo...

Life is not always easy. This plant near the Mono crater really speaks for itself despite the beautiful snow capped mountains behind it.

A product of my archives captured in Oceanside, California, I made a few variations in the original image. One of the things I enjoy doing is walking on the beach especially when the tide is a low as the one seen in the image. Thank you for your beach and sunset scenes that inspired this one.

I once dream of being on top of the world. Weathering through all the storms, I'm left battered and scarred. The last ounce of passion evaporated into the air.

I work to survive. This is life.

The Monarch Butterfly. This is truly a miracle of life. The intricacies of the wings, the tiny and detailed, sophisticated guidance systems gives this insect the ability to travel and travel it does, sometimes as much as 100 miles per day! In addition, the Monarch butterfly travels across the country to its home, traveling as far as 3,000 miles to Michoacan Mexico.

Unfortunately, the Monarch populations are dwindling after each passing year. Much like the decline of the Honey Bee, so goes the Monarch with people asking why? Pull out Occams' Razor to find the answer: Monsanto and the use of genetically modified crops, causing a sharp decline in Milkweed, the necessary plant that gives life to the insect.

Our world is a great system, when left to its devices, it is magnificent. Unfortunately, science and money get in the way without conscientious balance, or consideration for the future of our planet as they promise 'tomorrow', but live only for today. In the end, they are after worthless paper.

In the US, there is an agency who we have entrusted to protect these ecosystems, to safeguard the environment so as to not have it systematically destroyed. Unfortunately, the agency once charged with this noble effort, is held captive by the same people who direct chemical companies. Curiously, Monsanto executives run through the EPA like there was a "swinging door: and while in the decision making process, help to legislate in their favor. This is a criminal act, this is collusion.

The EPA is a threat to the future of our environment. They are granted far too great authority and answer to no one, they serve the interests of corporations with no regard to our world. Companies as well as the EPA should be brought to the highest court and charged under the US Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act laws (RICO)

While the EPA may have started with good intentions, it has been granted far too much authority, with no oversight and consequences for the atrocities that are allowed to carry through with causing direct, real, visible, undeniable and quantifiable long term damage to our environment in the US and throughout the world. Sill, politicians knowingly direct billions of dollars to religious like theories such as global warming to no avail.

Color Of Life

Still life light painting experiments continue.

I know that I have been away for a while. I'm not even sure anyone noticed. :p

I have been kind of busy, and this is the reason.

On October 25th, 2007, at 2:53am, my wife gave birth to our first child... a son. He was 7 lbs 11 oz and 19.75 inches long. He had some jaundice, so we all spend a couple of days with doctors at the hospital. You can see on his right hand where the IV had been hooked up. This was right after we got back...

Absolutely positively the most powerful thing I have witnessed in this life.

I hope to have more up soon.

:)

“Life Underground” is a permanent public artwork created in 2001 by American sculptor Tom Otterness for the 14th Street - Eighth Avenue station of the NYC Subway. The installation is a series of whimsical miniature bronze sculptures depicting cartoon like characters showing people and animals in various situations, and additional abstract sculptures, which are dispersed throughout the station platforms and passageways. The sculptor said the subject of the work is "the impossibility of understanding life in New York” and describes the arrangement of the individual pieces as being “scattered in little surprises”
