Powered by a lovely couple of Plain Parakeets - a species which is endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome of eastern Brazil, where it is a generally common resident in lowlands and foothills, to at least 1200 m, and is found from Alagoas south to Santa Catarina, and ranges inland as far as Goiás. It inhabits forests, second growth, semi-open areas, and cities, provided there are some trees. Just as its name suggests, this is a plain green-colored parakeet, although some blue is visible at the wing bend at rest and some bronzy coloration over the shoulder. It feeds on fruit, seeds and flowers, and perhaps also insects and their larvae, but given the Plain Parakeet’s general abundance—the species is common in many cities, including the huge metropolises of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo—it is perhaps surprising how little is known concerning this bird’s general biology.

Atlantic Royal Flycatcher - male - Vulnerable - Royal Flycatcher is very widespread, with a distribution that extends from southern Mexico south to the Atlantic Forest region of southeastern Brazil. Throughout this broad area, Royal Flycatcher inhabits the lower levels of humid evergreen or deciduous forests, although it also ranges into mature second growth, and edges. Royal Flycatcher exhibits notable geographic variation across this range, and so some authors recognize as many as four species of royal flycatcher: a northern species that occurs from Mexico to northern Colombia and northern Venezuela; a Pacific species (occidentalis) that is restricted to southwestern Ecuador and adjacent Peru; an Amazonian species, which is widespread in northern and central South America east of the Andes; and an Atlantic species (swainsoni), that occurs only in southeastern Brazil. Two of these populations, occidentalis and swainsoni, are potentially at risk of extinction. All of these taxa are flycatchers with a long bill and tail; the plumage is mostly brown, with a rufous or ochraceous tail. The most notable feature of Royal Flycatcher is the long ornate crest, which is red to orange (paler in females), with black and blue spotting. This crest usually is recumbent, giving the flycatcher a distinctive "hammerhead" appearance. When fully erect, however, the crest also is flared laterally; although it is rare to see the crest erected in a free flying Royal Flycatcher, these birds are well known for fanning the crest when held in the hand, while rhythmicaly swaying the head from side to side. The nest of Royal Flycatcher is a very long, sack like structure suspended from a slender branch or vine, and frequently is placed over a stream (or a small clearing) in the forest. The Atlantic Royal Flycatcher raises its fan very rarely. It took me more than 3 hours observing this individual to get this photo. I can say it was my Christmas gift.

Liberdade e responsabilidade
Tudo na criação está em permanente processo de transformação e
aprimoramento.
Assim também ocorre com os homens. Em sua condição de espíritos, trilham
marcha ascendente rumo à angelitude.
Foram criados em estado de absoluta simplicidade e ignorância, Mas possuem,
desde o princípio, os embriões de todas as virtudes.
Nas primeiras experiências foram conduzidos grandemente pelos instintos.
Gradualmente tomaram ciência de seu potencial e passaram a fazer opções.
Titubeantes no princípio, desenvolveram a consciência de si próprios e da
sua vontade.
Um elemento primordial do progresso consciente é o livre-arbítrio.
As espécies animais e vegetais são conduzidas pelas forças da natureza, em
suas etapas de elaboração. Já os homens podem escolher os caminhos que
trilham.
O progresso espiritual pressupõe o desenvolvimento da faculdade de discernir
o bem e o mal. Para a aquisição desse senso moral, para crescer em
entendimento e compreensão, são imprescindíveis à liberdade de opção. Quanto
mais o espírito burilam seu intelecto e exerce sua vontade, mais liberdade
tem. Seu leque de opções aumenta. Mas não é somente a liberdade que ganha
expressão.
Com o conhecimento e o lento evoluir do ser, ele se torna mais responsável
pelo que faz. Quando o instinto predomina, a responsabilidade é ínfima.
Quando a vontade e a consciência regem o destino, torna-se inarredável a
responsabilidade.
O homem é intrinsecamente livre em seus atos e pensamentos, mas responde por
tudo o que faz e pensa.
As leis humanas são freqüentemente burladas e enganadas, contudo, nos
estatutos divinos não há qualquer falha.
Sendo as leis divinas inscritas na consciência de cada homem, elas jamais
são burladas. Ninguém escapará de si próprio.
Cada qual é livre para pensar, falar e agir. Mas essa liberdade sempre deve
respeitar os direitos do próximo.
A movimentação do livre-arbítrio jamais deve causar sofrimento e coerção
para outrem.
Quem se permite infelicitar o semelhante, infelicita-se a si próprio.
O desrespeito à dignidade e à felicidade alheias aprisiona o seu autor.
O homem que provoca sofrimento prepara para si um cárcere de sombra e
desgraças. Talvez ele engane a justiça humana. Quiçá logre anestesiar a
própria consciência por um tempo. Mas cedo ou tarde, nesta encarnação ou em
outra, despertará para a realidade. Sua consciência o chamará a prestar
contas de seus atos.
Então, a dor infligida ressurgirá no íntimo do ser. Entre inibições e
complexos, lutas e sofrimentos, ele se acertará com as leis divinas.
Reflita na responsabilidade que você possui, em sua condição de homem livre.
Você pode muito. Pode escolher ser honesto ou desonesto, misericordioso ou
cruel, leal ou traiçoeiro, útil ou inútil. Mas responderá por seus atos. Não
se trata de pecado e castigo, mas de responsabilidade.
Pense nisso!
