Names of smaller cities are in italic (with slant to the right), names of rivers in an upright (or slightly left-leaning) italic.
Oh the care someone put into making this lovely old sign. Must have been a cute little bait shop when it was open. Now you can barely see it from the road although you can still get down the driveway.

Szoeke was a Hungarian-American designer who created modern wooden furniture with elaborate inlays (including lettering) in the 1940s–50s. He went to school in Vienna in the 1920s and started his career as a calligrapher, continuing to do work for advertising and book design until his death in 1969. He also designed Hallmark’s crown logo.
Try to paint using overlapping strokes. Note how one edge of the shadow is done first. A little dry time before adding the overlapping strokes helps keep the color from blening too much, enhancing the aged look.
