...when going out in minus 18 to explore your photographic talents... goretex gloves are advisable, snowboard trousers are advisable (not like me kneeling in snow shooting some macro stuff in my jeans) and never ever put mascara on. Because it is cold and cold makes you cry. Not pretty.

Leave an escape route when turning on the carpet spot cleaner
The boys were under the bed in "their" room after having their first meal of raw food. Unfortunately, Reilly is a pig and tried to steal everyone's food after he hoovered down his own. This resulted in Finlay grabbing what he could in his teeth and making a run for it. You can probably figure out why I had to spot clean the carpet.
Anyway, I was standing in the doorway, bending over to clean the spot, when an orange blur flew out from under the bed, launching off my foot. The only reason I know it was Reilly is, Finlay was still under the bed. I didn't see Reilly for the next half hour, then he showed up in the kitchen, singing away. Silly boy.
I think I need a pedicure; this is one nasty lookin' foot!
Happiness is like a cat, If you try to coax it or call it, it will avoid you; it will never come. But if you pay not attention to it and go about your business, you'll find it rubbing against your legs and jumping into your lap.

There are two important lessons to be learned from this photo taken during the 2017 Epcot Festival of the Arts:
1. Always carry a pocket watch so you'll know if you are late for a very important date. (Especially of you are a forgetful white rabbit.)
2. Always pay attention to the background when taking a photo. It's easy to get lost in the subject matter and forget about distracting elements other places in the scene.
The painting was on display next to Alice's meeting location in the UK pavilion.

Swimming lessons for the under-fives at an ungodly hour on a Saturday morning. These children do not stay still, but there is something about the identical swimming hats and armbands that makes me want to attempt the impossible and capture the scene. (Also, photographs are not allowed, so drawing is the only option).

I went back to school today! I ended up helping my old photography teacher run a session today & the next two days teaching the basics of photography to younger students still at the school. During today's first session we wandered down to the very local "Hall Place Gardens" where there is a plethora of wildlife & nature scenes available. I was able to snap a few decent shots myself, and I also got the chance to test out a new piece of shade 8 welding glass as an ND filter. The sky wasn't particularly interesting today so I focussed mainly on the water and plant-life. I am secretly hoping that the weather tomorrow will either improve, or be too wet to go out, meaning the next lesson will be in a studio setup. But I'm not fussed as to which ends up happening.
Overall though, a good effort today, lets hope I can get some more interesting pictures in the days ahead! :)

After making a couple of rough thumbnails, I attempted this sketch, which I would further refine were I to do this over.
I wanted the soccer net in this park to be the central feature, so it (and the red house behind it) are framed by the tree trunks and the foliage off in the distance.
While I tried to render the various landscape planes according to the brush markers that I had on me, I found the three tree trunks to be most interesting when I looked this over at the end.
The one toward the right was the most "blown out" because of the direct sun. For the most part, all the detail of the bark was obscured. Similarly the tree behind it was in uniform shade. Also, only bulk shadow shapes were visible, with very little bark detail.
The leftmost tree was in dappled sunlight, and while I could see some detail in the light parts, the shadow sections were pretty uniform.
Thus the level of detail that can be rendered in a drawing depends not only on how close/far away the object is, but also on the lighting conditions. The harshly lit tree (right) had the strongest and hardest edges, while the dappled tree to the left had an outline that had both weak and strong edge definitions, depending on how the dapples were falling.

Matsu "pine" represents happiness and celebration. This is an traditional and formal arrangement--called "kakubana" in Japanese.
