The importance of visual perception!

Catching up with SketchingNow Buildings homework. These were done from a photo reference - practicing continuous line, abstracting shapes, and constructing volumes. Read more about it on my course notes blog at : jblodget-buildings.blogspot.com/2016/09/lesson-1-boxes.html .

Abstracting shapes was good fun and I found it really helped me to switch of the bit of my brain that wants to identify the objects I'm drawing. I still wanted to add some of the extra lines but resisted!

Constructing volumes was probably my favourite exercise so far because I got to put everything together more accurately. All the earlier exercises obviously fed into this one because they really helped me get to know what I was drawing before diving into this.

I didn't realise quite how challenging the angles were until I started drawing these boxes and the ends of the two boxes on the far right were definitely the trickiest bit. I also realised that quite a lot of the vertical lines in the photo are not actually vertical so this was a good way of really starting to notice the complexities of the composition. #lesson1 #lesson1boxes

Signed up to Liz Steels latest online course. Really useful exercise, particularly enjoyed the continuous line one

blind contour and continuous lines. The blind contour drawing was fun as there is no pressure to get a nice drawing. I liked the continuous line exercise as well but it wasn't easy to get the angles right.. #sketchingnowbuildings

really difficult to end where the starting point was.

shapes and volumes. I realised that I don't use abstracting shapes when sketching. I usually rely on constructing volumes. But I look forward to practice abstracting shapes in my next sketches. #sketchingnowbuildings

on the first try I didn't get the angles right. on the second try the angles are much better.
