Nocturne is one of the spirits know as the Keepers of Dreams. Much to her chagrin, however, she has become the Keeper of Nightmares.
She often lays alone, in the clouds, crying herself into a stupor until another call from Earth sends her speeding down to help a crying child who has dreamed of a monster under its bed.
Have you ever been awakened by a night terror, breathing heavy and fast, heart pounding, only to realize that you are safe and sound in your bed before quickly drifting off again and forgetting it the next morning?
That is Nocturne's doing. She soothes you back into consciousness, and takes your nightmares upon herself.
It is a dreadful burden on her, and because she is so heavy hearted and full of fear due to our nightmares, she is often very melancholy and lonely.
So next time you awaken from a deep sleep, sure that somewhere in the night you had a bad dream but can't remember what it was, remember little Nocturne. She sacrifices herself each night to allow a restful night for you and me.
The other Keepers of Dreams often forget her very existence, as she stays very far away from them, scared that her sadness with envelope their joy.
