A flight of stairs takes the visitor of the hypocenter park in Nagasaki down to the original ground level at the time of the explosion. The dirt and rumble left behind by the blast raised the ground level by several meters. The remains of destroyed houses, and several materials that boiled at the intense heat of the blast can be seen here behind a protective glass panel.

The mural, painted by about 200 volunteers, was organized by artist Benjamin Swatez and Wagner, the director of the local nonprofit Voices of the Children.
It portrays the significant impacts of immigration, both locally and on a broader scale, Wagner said. Local youths through Wagner’s organization helped brainstorm concepts and references for the mural.
For instance, one image depicts Legson Kayira, who immigrated from Africa, studied at Skagit Valley College and became a writer.

A man climbs the stairs to the top of the dune of Pylat, a foredune (parallel to a shoreline, behind the high tide line of a beach) near Arcachon, France.
The dune is around 500 m wide from east to west and 2.7 km long from north to south. Its height is currently 110 meters above sea level. The dune is a famous tourist destination with more than one million visitors per year.
This path crosses Obusedo’s grounds, connecting Hokusai Museum with the Takai Kozan Memorial. It was the work of the Machinami Shukei Jigyo (Townscape Beautification Project), the group that reconstructed the company’s grounds between 1980 and 1987. Meetings were held to listen to the opinions of the government, other local businesses and the residents of Obuse. The “Obuse Method” to harmonize new and old structures and create a beautiful townscape using private and not government resources became known in Japan. The group used a tree from Obusedo’s orchad to construct the chestnut blocks that pave the path. Hence the name Chestnut lane, “Kuri no Komichi”, a characteristic corner of Obuse.

Inside the Niederwaldtempel, a neoclassical garden pavilion standing on the embankment above the Rhine valley, in the Niederwald forest over Rüdesheim am Rhein, Hesse, Germany. The original structure was built in 1790 by Count von Ostein and destroyed in 1944. It was rebuilt at the beginning of the 21st century, and visitors can admire the “uniquely magnificent beauty of the Rheingau” like Goethe wrote in 1814.
