The Imperial Pod Racer

I recently saw a concept for a Tie Racer on instagram. It was cool but essentially it was just 2 massive cylindrical engines stuck to the side of a Tie Fighter. So I decided to take this to it’s natural conclusion. What would an Imperial Pod Racer look like?

The idea was to take the aesthetics of a Tie Fighter, split it up and re-design it for the racing circuit. I figured that with all the resources the empire has they would make something a lot more polished and refined than the junkyard efforts we see in the movie. They’d also use one of their signature designs for it. The centre part of the ‘pod’ is a heavily modified mid-section from a Tie Fighter by Jerac.

A lightning quick, sci-fi spacecraft based on the shape of a trilobate arrowhead.

Whilst researching inspiration for the shape of my next spacecraft I started looking at arrowheads. It seems there are many different variations, one of which is known as the trilobate arrowhead.

This shape proved far more difficult to create and adapt into a sci-fi craft than I thought it would but I'm quite pleased with the final result.

Had a lot of fun making these. Tried to keep to the ethics of the spacemen as ‘explorers’ first, but gave them enough armaments to defend themselves if necessary

A bee sized nano drone used to infiltrate bee colonies and extract valuable information on their plans to take over the world.

It feels like ages since I made a freestyle spacecraft. I often find myself influenced by insects for some reason and when I saw the City Oceans Mini Sub Lego set (60263) I thought I might be able to make some kind of Viper using it's yellow mid-section. That grew into this bee nano drone. Because.. bees rock!

I might continue this and make a series of insect themed robotic sci-fi craft...

Anyone wanting to see an in-depth analysis of my Nebulon-B moc might want to check out the latest review of it by Brickcats at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYua48cpiKg&t=189s

Arguably, the greatest thing to come out of the Star Wars sequels was the Tie Silencer. A stunning, sleek take on the Tie Interceptor that had way too little screen time. Set 75179, ‘Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter’, was my entry point into this hobby and I’ve kept hold of it all this time. It’s a great set, but I wanted to turn this playset into a display set. So here it is. A complete overhaul and extensive modification of set 75179.

It keeps much of the interior structure from the set but has an entirely new exterior design with numerous details added and lines re-made based on screenshots and highly detailed 3d models (you’re looking at a lot more than just the original set with some tiles stuck on top) It also features completely re-designed wings using new construction methods.

I re-designed the underside and part of the internal structure (with no loss of structural integrity) to incorporate a cavity for the stand to slot into. A modified version of the UCS Batwing stand worked perfectly for this ship. The instructions have also been completely re-designed from scratch.

The ship now weighs in at 1324 pieces, including the stand (the original set is made up of just 630 pieces) 52% of the parts from the original set are used in my modification so if you own the set you would need an extra 1012 pieces to create this mod, plus it’s stand. (Currently those parts can be purchased from Bricklink for about £60).

Super proud to be featured in this. Blocks Magazine - 100 Incredible Lego Builds Special Issue. 100 mocs chosen from over the years in their magazine with comments from official LEGO designers about each build. My Rebel Alliance Corvus is featured on page 66 and 67 (instructions for this build and its Imperial counterpart are available from www.brickvault.toys)

The brilliant Lego Car Blog have written a fantastic blog about my Matterphase Neutrino Skimmer. Always fun to read their work. Another one for my Media Scrapbook folder.

I didn’t intend for this moc to be quite so creepy and disgusting but here we are. Think of it as an early Halloween build.

I recently acquired a huge bulk buy of Lego with some really interesting pieces in it. So instead of doing what I should be doing (sorting it) I decided to rummage through it and build something with some of those interesting pieces instead.

Much more fun than sorting!

The Brothers Brick wrote a really nice blog about my Nebulon-B moc just before Christmas. Another one for my media scrapbook Flickr album. You can see the blog here: www.brothers-brick.com/2022/12/23/i-always-frigate-what-t...

A hat trick of media coverage for my little pod racer moc as The Brothers Brick wrote a great little blog about it. Always a real honour to be featured by them and one more for my Media Scrapbook album.

Awesome blog about my Trilobate spacecraft over on Brothers Brick. This is the 10th build of mine they have written a blog about (although the first was a mod of Raskolnikovs Aggressor). I am really quite proud of that.

Putting a new 'testicular' spin on my latest MOC is this blog by the Lego Car Blog.

I genuinely had never considered such a ballsy angle to this build but there you go. Someone on reddit said the guns look like wieners too. So that's nice. 😌
