Alternate build of set 31119 (Ferris wheel)

A MOC I built about 5 years ago: An interpretation of the Prancing Pony.

Unfortunately not well photographed, and meanwhile disassembled.

Maybe you like it anyway 😉

Because I do nearly everything in 3s, this is the first MOC in a mixel-joint-based miniland plus series with heavy emphasis on color and emotion. The vignette takes up a ~32x32 footprint in a circle. Completed in March 2023. Only uses the following colors: Black, Dark Blue, Dark Azure, Medium Azure, Dark Bley, Light Bley, Light Aqua, and White. Won Best Vignette at Brickworld Chicago 2023. The Dino Tail addiction is real.

Nothing much at the moment... Built some more Creator sets birds... I wonder why the designer made a bird with a hole there... haha... might need to change that to another type of brick...

I've build this interlude especially for a LUG venue in about 1,5 months.

From what you see 95% is new. I only reused the fountain, the gondolas and the street lighting from my previous Venice moc. The rest is new and build from the ground up.

Even the water had to be rebuild because it fell apart when i broke down venice part 1 in 23'

I hope you enjoy what you see, and if you have any technique breakdown requests. Let me know

Couldn't decide what colour tiles to use at first... Decided to use light bluish grey ones... Haven't gotten around to it yet...

So this is where i worked on for the past 3years (on and of). Approximately 3000 hours and 250.000 parts later I present to you with great pride and incredible detail; Venice 1486 as it might have looked in the 15th century.

This is the first chapter of a total of 4, in which I'll take you into an adventure of Darion as a Master Assassin.

Let me know what you think 🙏

--------------------------------------------------------------

"Osservare" in the English tongue better known as Observing. By far the most boring thing about finding your mark, but absolutely necessary.

Meet 'Darion Aiulf da Fortebraccio' and his eyes and ears in the sky 'Gaita' an Italian barn owl. Darion is a Venetian nobleman, and to others unknown also a Master Assassin and former member of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins.

Abandoned by his brothers and mentor for disobedience. He now is a solitary assassin that seeks his targets through the signs of god. For his next mark, faith steered Darion in the direction of the Templar order. Who now have a foothold on Venice city grounds and even managed to get the newly elected doge 'Marco Barbarigo' on their side. Marco openly expressed his support for the Templar Order...

And so this is where our story begins!

Where other men blindly follow the truth, Remember, nothing is true.

Where other men are limited by morality or law, Remember, everything is permitted.

We work in the dark to serve the light.

We are assassins!

This early 15th century 'Caraval' carries the name 'Orion Star' and is used for the transport of goods along the Mediterranean trade routes.

In 1486 Florence and Venice had widely accepted trade agreements and benefit of each others reach within the ever expanding worldwide trade routes.

Apart from creating the shape of this ship, the sails and the color scheme, the real challenge was to recreate the symbol of florence; the iconic fleur de lis.

Personally, I think this worked out pretty well 😁

_____________________________________

Some background story;

I chose this type of ship because it fits within the time frame and the characteristics of the venice laguna of that time (not deep and many sandbanks).

The caravel had a stern rudder and a raised forecastle and sterncastle. Caravels had a typical length-to-beam ratio of 3.5:1 with a shallow draught. It was also highly manoeuvrable and fast. All of these characteristics made the caravel ideal for exploring unfamiliar waters and coastal shallows where larger ships might easily have become stranded on sandbanks or damaged by rocks.

Let me know what you think and thx for stopping by 🙌

Ship class: Tartane, single masted lateen rigged

Type: cargo/fishing

Crew: max 4

Carrying weight: 24tons -

Year of introduction: early 15th century

After more than 2 months in the making, I can finally show you my latest build. It's a stepping stone towards my four-part Venice 1486 series that I'm still working on.

A Tartane or tartan was a small ship used both as a fishing ship and for coastal trading in the Mediterranean during the 15th century.

This ship is packed with small details and realistic elements that could have existed in that time period. I did some extensive research to come as close as possible.

If I can point out a couple of my favorite bites; it has got to be the brickbuild sail, the shaping of the hull, and my attempt to create realistic waving water.

For those who are wondering this is 100% LEGO and no glue or other tricks are being used to keep this together

It's lovely to have a car that can fit four minifigs!

Posted on Good Friday 2023 on my IG. All cloth and rubber bands are 100% LEGO.

Scott Francis isn't impressed. XD

Just some random photos with the recent minifigures which arrived/ built. Haven't been feeling much of a creative juice... :(

...in rut season.

Lego Gazelle transformed into a white tail buck.

This city was the first permanent Númenorean establishement founded in the year 750 of the Second Age by Crown Prince Aldarion on the estuary of the river Gwathló. From here, Aldarion's 'Guild of Venturers' (with their ship Eämbar as their guildhouse) began harvesting the local timber for ship-building.

250 years later, Lond Daer is a thriving city and the Guild of Venturers is responsible for the largest shipbuilding industry in Middle-Earth. But this success comes at a price: the deforestation of the outlying regions, Enedwaith and Minhiriath, became cataclysmic, angering the native Dunlending population. Now war is imminent!

I'm proud to present the second installment in the #SecondAgeCollab: the Middle-Earth city Lond Daer and its thriving shipbuilding industry.

Be sure to follow all the builders tagged, and check Alclones account to see the next part of the collab coming out on Saturday.

Finally, I would like to give a massive thank you to my generous sponsor, Friend bricks who was so kind to provide me with some of his amazing custom Middle-Earth minifigs which really helped to bring this build to life.

Be sure to checkout his Bricklink store !

Thanks for viewing the second installment in the Second Age Collab

One of my first autobiographic MOC :)

That's my current feeling regarding my job.

Time to change ?

This was supposed to be the Gazelle from the Creator 3 in 1 set # 31150. I thought I could modify it enough to resemble a white tail deer.

Morning grazing....

I think I snagged this road sign from my cous's collection... :D

I swapped the hot dog area to the right, which works as a buffer zone and the glass area for the townhouse does not get blocked by another building smacked right next to it.

🔳 50" x 30" x 46" (4' x 2.5' x 4')

🔳 50,000 - 100,000 pieces

🔳 120+ Hours

🔳 7 Weeks - Late April to Mid-June

🔳 First and last show at Brickworld Chicago 2022

🔳 Inspiration: The build is inspired in three large ways:

- Art I found online – check out my Instagram post to see it.

- Beautiful Christian buildings I've visited: Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in D.C., Church of the Intercession in NYC, St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC, & Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in NYC

- My Love of the Lego Castle Theme: Always been present, especially in my childhood, but I've never really built in heavily. My favorite sets include: 7019 Viking Fortress, 10193 Medieval Market Village, and 7036 Dwaves' Mine. Most recently, I loved 21325 Medieval Blacksmith which is what set me on the Black Falcon kick.

🔳 Help & Support:

Truly could not have done it in the small window of time without some great people:

Simon Liu - did the beautiful and oft mentioned waterfall, the waves/shoreline, & other small details. Came out to Illinois early in advance of Brickworld to help get me across the finish line! Always cheering me on! Everyone needs an accountabuildibuddy!

Nick Jensen - graciously allowed me to come and borrow both the photo studio and a good deal of his time in generating these AMAZING photos. Also came over early pre-Brickworld and helped with any weird, small details I threw at him! An OG!

My friend Noah - did some great bush & plant repetition a week before the show. King!

Steve K. - came by during the wee hours of Thurs night / Friday morning of Brickworld and did something that I cannot remember now 😅 - I know it was important!

Dan L. - a CRUCIAL final Bricklink order!

Friends and Family - so grateful for all your support!

🔳 Credit Where Credit Is Due:

- The rounded bush in bright green used 4 times on the terrace and 3 times by the "river" was by fullplatebuilds in the Micro Trees post.

- The smaller trees on the front left and right of the terrace (best seen in image #1 in the carousel on the left hand side) was a modified version of cheeseystudios' in his great Hogwarts Courtyard build.

- Deer technique is an ever so slightly modified version of littlejohn_brickbuilt's in the fantastic Sabishi Monastery.

- I found the 5-flex-tube tree technique somewhere online but I cannot find it now! Fits in the base of 1 stud surrounded by stacked 1x2 rounded plates.

- Once again, 8th image in the carousel is the waterfall done by Simon Liu.

🔳 Some other random notes on the build:

- The MOC has a footprint of 96x192 in studs

- It weights approx. 50-60 lbs. Hard to tell!

- I was supposed to start in early March...started in late April 😬

- Lighting the stained glass was almost an afterthought. Unfortunately, the walls of the monastery are only 1 brick thick and has a lot of holes for light to peek through. I taped paper along the inside in order to plug these up.

- The story highlight on my profile walks through the entire build from start to finish!

Thanks for viewing!

In a place called Coatepec (Serpent Hill) the goddess Coatlicue took a small quantity of white feathers and placed them in her bosom, from which she conceived Huitzilopochtli. Outraged by the nature of her mother’s pregnancy, Coyolxauhqui led 400 of her brothers in an attack on Coatlicue. In the midst of this attack, Huitzilopochtli emerged from his mother’s womb in full battle armor and armed with his spear, Xiuhcoatl, destroyed his brothers and sisters, and rose to take his place as the Aztec God of War.

Fits nicely with the earlier Toy Shop, I think the designers made it this way to fit with the right corner shop....

Oh no! I almost forgot Macro Mondays!!!!

Now, where am I going to find flowers at this time of the day. It's dark and cold outside... And the only plants inside that actually survive are...

....Lego flowers!

Just a little project I did for fun. Had lots of trouble with angles though, so not terribly happy with the result. However, it's okay.

After 41+ weeks we can finally say we're the proud parents of our first baby boy named 'Jens'.

Mother & child are doing well and the next couple of weeks I have some time off from work to get to know this little wonder 😊

My LEGO hobby will be pushed back a couple of (big) steps and I'm looking forward to enjoy the pleasures and responsibilities that come with parenthood.

So before Jens entered this world I made a Lego build to reveal his name to family, friends and the community. I hope you like it, because I surely do!

As you can see there was a certain date that I wished he would be born, but I had no say in that 😋. Also can you name all the different 'easter eggs' hidden within this build?

Stay safe & healthy and we will see each other soon within the Lego community 👍
